Gabriel Smith was just 15 years old when he volunteered to serve in the Continental army in the American Revolution in place of his brother and later at 16 in his own name. He later lived and died in the West Georgia area leaving a legacy of patriotism, service, and loyalty to his many descendants, including many here in our area.

Last night, our very own Paula Wilson Steed shared about Mr. Gabriel Smith’s life in an incredible and very detailed presentation at the Bowdon Area Historical Society meeting. We are proud of our heritage and thankful for members who share in historic preservation, patriotism, and education. 🇺🇸

If you are a descendant of Gabriel Smith, or any other Revolutionary Patriot, we would love to get you connected with our chapter.

Our chapter was proud to share about life in the Revolutinary War era at the Carroll County Schools Heritage Days at the Ag Center, speaking to all fourth grade students in our District. It was a great day celebrating America’s 250 birthday and sharing with these future leaders about the founding of our country.

The Abraham Baldwin Chapter, NSDAR, is honored to share our long-standing connection with Oak Mountain Academy in Carrollton. We are especially grateful to Headmaster Patrick Yuran for inviting our chapter to decorate a cabinet celebrating the meaningful history and friendship between our organizations.

For this special display, we shared photographs of our organizing charter members, chapter yearbooks, memorabilia from historic Meadow Garden, and a photograph of our chapter’s “Never Forget” marker at the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park, along with patriotic treasures that celebrate our nation and the ideals we hold dear.

It is a privilege to preserve our history while sharing it with the next generation. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our heritage, service, patriotism, and enduring friendship with Oak Mountain Academy.

Our chapter was delighted to host a Patriotic concert to our community to celebrate America250! The concert featured patriotic music by the The Georgia State Defense Force Band under the direction of the incredibly talented Terry Lowry. The Carroll County JROTC presented the colors and Girl Scout Troop 50013 led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. We are grateful for all of our Veterans groups, civic groups, businesses, and all those in the community who supported this special concert celebrating all of our Patriots who sacrificed their lives and fortunes for our freedom.

A special thank you to our Daughters serving on our America 250 Committee who worked tirelessly to make this event a success! 🎶🇺🇸🎺

Our chapter has been helping the Carroll County Honor Flight Mission 1 for several months preparing letters and organizing them, sharing details of the trip with other Veterans to sign up, recruiting guardians. We finally got to see the results this past week when 25 Veterans and their guardians boarded a Delta Flight bound for our nation’s capital to explore the Monuments, experience the changing of the guards at Arlington National Cemetery, and share a meal with their fellow Veterans. One of our very own HODAR’s was a guardian and another HODAR played Bagpipes to help welcome them all home. Some of our members attended the late night Welcome Home celebration, but we all rallied behind this wonderful trip to support it and our chapter was recognized on the board of supporters. What an honor to help and serve those who served us in protecting our Constitutional rights and defending our freedom. May God Bless all of our Veterans and God bless America! 🇺🇸
