Next month in March, the town of Carmel ✨should✨ be adopting the food sovereignty ordinance, allowing for direct to consumer food sales without ordinance (under state regulation).

Currently in Maine, home bakers like myself have to operate under the cottage food laws and in Maine that limits us to only baked goods using non perishable items. So this means technically no real buttercream frostings on cakes, no cream cheese frostings, no meats or cheeses, no fresh vegetables… no meal style foods that you would store refrigerated. The town of Carmel adopting the food ordinance, if voted in favor of at our next town meeting, would hugely expand my offerings! If that’s the case, stay tuned 👀
