Cakes By Katie is an independent baker in Dover, DE, specializing in custom cakes and other desserts, crafted in her home kitchen. Katie Stockslager first learned the art of making cakes at Half Baked Patisserie in Middletown, DE, where she became Head Cake Artist before the pandemic. As time passed, she felt the itch for a creative outlet apart from her 9-5 corporate job. Then, Cakes By Katie was born in 2025: a sweet return to her passion.

Picture an old-timey cottage with stone walls on top of rolling green hills. Maybe some sheep. And inside, there’s a woman in an apron churning butter, making scones. Running the place before her husband gets home.

…THAT’S what my home smells like right now. Buttery, homey, rustic, warm. 😌 …Idk what made me think of sheep.

**Upon further research, these cookies, called Hallongrotta, originated in Sweden! So that’s where the sheep came from.) The name means “raspberry cave” - a cave I’d happily walk into and never come out. 🥰

Ain’t no berries like Fifers’ berries. 🍓

Honestly, I’m not summer girl - it’s my least favorite season. BUT one thing that makes hot weather worth it is visiting Fifers to get local produce.

I’m turning these strawberries into jam later. And not pictured: blueberries that will get baked into my Summer Blueberry Cobbler cupcakes. 🫐

Because when local supports local, we all thrive. ❤️

This is a one-woman gig.

That girl hauling a cart full of butter at the store? The one who’s messaging you at midnight about your order? She’s the same one carrying a wedding cake down 2 flights of stairs to her car to deliver.

She’s the owner, baker, decorator, admin, photographer, flavor curator, delivery driver, inventory taker, grocery shopper, menu designer (no AI!), dish washer, and social media poster behind Cakes By Katie.

Because she IS Katie. And yes, she does it all on TOP of having a full-time 9-5. (Except for the accounting - shoutout to you, Mom. ☺️)

And she wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

S’mores has a brand new look. 💅

And before you say “If it wasn’t broken, why fix it?”, hear me out:

The old S’mores had style, but the wrong texture. The chocolate buttercream was smooth, but not like a soft, melted chocolate bar. The marshmallow center was okay, but soaked into the cake too quickly and disappeared.

So here she is, revamped:

A buttery graham cracker crust. A silky smooth chocolate ganache center. Toasted marshmallow buttercream. All the flavor of S’mores with the right balance of crunchy graham cracker, rich chocolate center, and sweet, toasty marshmallows.

She says hi. 🔥
