My Porch Bakery, in all her glory.
Yāall, let me tell you, yesterday/last night really, really tested me. Iāve never been on the verge of quitting so bad!
Everything that could go wrong, did go wrongā¦how, why, who knows? Oh, you wanna know what happened?
Sure.
So the first thing that started the avalanche of chaos: I just finished cooking a pre-order of sourdough, and when I went to place the loaf of my double chocolate bread on the cooling rack, I totally dropped it, centimeters from the rack. SPLAT. I had to start over and thatās when I realized I hadnāt even fed my starter yet š« Thatās insane, absolutely insane.
Yeah, there were tears
Next, did I forget to add salt to the first batch of brownies? Sure did! Tossed them aggressively in the trash before they were even finished cooking. Did I immediately whip up a new batch throw it in the oven and forget to set my timer, obviously.
Did my guaranteed Friday delivery for my new packaging for the new mini cookie dippers get delivered⦠Absolutely not, but they made it to the town over, twice?! (Amazon youāve changed.. Itās not me, itās you.)
Did I accidentally close my four-tiered cooling rack with the cookies on it⦠yes.
Was I planning on doing a four-loaf craving box of different sourdough flavors? Yes. Did I also decide it was a really good idea to go for an hour drive in my husbandās cool '66 Galaxy and overproof the bread Thursday night so when I cooked it yesterday two of the flavored loaves were not good enough to sell⦠Duh, do I regret it? Mehā¦. Iāll always pick cruising country roads cuddled up to him.
Are they now just two mini loaves of jalapeƱo cheddar and double chocolate, yeah itās fine⦠but promises made and promises not kept š¤¦š¼āāļø
Did I think it was a good idea to overcook the mini sugar cookies that way they wouldnāt break in the frosting and then immediately regret all my life choices⦠Yes.
But thatās fine I just priced them lower and honestly my oldest ate all the extras so maybe that wasnāt so bad.
Am I standing in my kitchen at 6 am after 5 hours of sleep cooking my chocolate loaf? Yes.
All in all, I didnāt quit, so maybe thatās a win?
The thing is, nobody tells you when you open a porch bakery, that there will be lots of rolling with the punches, lots and lots of punches, blood sweat, and tears.
But when you get messages in your inbox, praising you for the goodies purchased at your front door, yeah, itās worth it.
