As I continue my journey working with smaller, niche communities within the larger q***r community, I’ve been thinking a lot about the visual culture we create around our spaces and events.
When we started working on EXOTICA, we were tired of seeing event posters built around lazy AI-generated imagery. We wanted to make something ourselves, from scratch.
Heavily influenced by Martin Denny’s 1957 album Exotica and its unmistakable mid-century aesthetic, we developed the concept, built the set, styled the shoot, photographed it, and turned the final image into the event artwork.
These smaller q***r communities have always created their own imagery, aesthetics, and identities. I want the work I make with them to come from that same philosophy.
