Cutting taxes for billionaires is extremely unpopular. No wonder they have to spend millions to convince people to like it. But it's not just billionaires. The same corporations that have raised costs for working people are set to benefit from the tax scam in a big way too. The one thing we know FOR SURE, is that tax breaks to billionaires and corporations do not incentivize lower prices. Corporate tax cuts do NOT lower costs. The tax breaks at the top NEVER "trickle down." But Elon Musk is doing just fine — read for yourself here: https://itep.org/tesla-reported-zero-federal-income-tax-in-2024/ His company avoided almost all federal income tax on nearly $11 billion of U.S. income over three years! Now more than ever, it's time to

Dear AFSCME family,

On May 9, 2024, one of our members, from the Jamaica Plain Branch of the Boston Public Library, suffered a huge loss when his house went up in flames and they lost all their belongings. The family was physically unharmed and they are now in the position of trying to rebuild and move forward. I have heard from some of you asking how you can help. His wife’s employer started a https://gofund.me/4521f9e0 All funds will go to the family as they rebuild. We’ve previously shown support for one of our own, so please do what you can. Feel free to share.

As some of you may know, on the evening of May 9th, one of our amazing team members, Sa… Scott Daniels needs your support for Help Sam Segura's Family Recover

From mgmt:

Good morning, all. After a check of both buildings this morning, we have decided to keep both McKim and Boylston buildings closed today. As with the past few days, people can work at another location or take PTO. In addition, people who don’t normally work remotely but have internet access and a plan with their supervisor, can choose to do some professional development at home. Those employees must have supervisor approval to do that.

The union will continue to track so we can get a final list of impacted members.

Thank you to Boston City Councilor At-Large Erin Murphy and Boston City Councilor Frank Baker for raising this matter so we could clarify our position for asking questions. We appreciate all the councilors who attended today.

Our issue is how this policy change was handled. I, as did many other city unions, entered into a good faith agreement with the City in October that protected the AFSCME 1526 BPL member’s jobs and respected their personal decisions and should withstand any surges or changes to metrics. Having a testing mandate allowed employees to continue to work while keeping their co-workers and members of the public safe.

And having heard today from the Director of OLR, “… the City is confident that given the 96% vaccination rate for City employees and masking, as well as social distancing, the return from remote work is safe for all involved”, then implementing a vaccine mandate while eliminating testing, demonstrates the City is considering the BPHC metrics for city workers only when it supports their agenda.
