Happy new week!

We started our Monday with fabulous news: boot camp is over. We have given the orthopedic boot the boot!!!!

The new status involves an ankle brace AND being allowed to drive 🙌🙌🙌🙌 🥳🤩🥹😭
This came much sooner than expected and yet it has felt like a long time, that’s why it’s an emotional moment, brimming with gratitude.

What does this mean for you all? Honest Breads is slowly going BACK TO BAKING! Not quite full schedule because of all the physical therapy appointments and not wanting to overdo it, plus having to tweak our poor 30-year-old oven’s thermostat, which is tired and throwing tantrums…

By the way, this is a phenomenon that still eludes me: why are there are so few Honest men?

Tongue-in-cheek jokes aside, I really would love to find out why ordering artisan bread has fallen into the category of “jobs that mostly a woman does”.

In my country, on January 5th before bed, every family member sets one shoe under the tree for the Three Kings to leave presents in, under and around it. It’s our version of Christmas presents but on the actual Epiphany.

Wonderful news from my doctor today 🙌🙌🙌

I had been told to expect not to be able to walk unaided until close to February, possibly. Well, today I was given the green light to start putting pressure on my foot, four weeks sooner than the earliest date expected before! An early Christmas miracle! 🤗

If felt good to have the bandages and splint removed and upgrade to an orthopedic boot that I can take off to sleep and shower 😍. “You can wash your foot” never sounded so sweet 🤭

Thanks so all who have wished me a speedy recovery, because the wish is coming true! I will continue to follow doctors orders and keep the crutches around for balance (I already had a minor fall this evening🥴, but fell on pillows!!! 😅), and expect to be back to baking sooner rather than later at the start of the year.

I really feel like celebrating and wanted to share my joy. Thank you, lovely friends, for your support! I saw that this weekend we surpassed 450 followers, which also feels incredible. What a way to start the week!!! 🥳❤️❤️❤️

Handmade marshmallows are worlds apart from their store-bought counterparts!
The aroma of these deeply chocolatey wonders will remind you of Oreo cookies because of their high content in black cocoa (the fanciest, most expensive and healthiest kind of cocoa powder), but GREAT NEWS: Honest marshmallows are hand made and 100% natural!

I CANNOT wait to receive my order from Alaina's Gourmet Creations this coming Tuesday!
Today, Saturday 12/16 is the cutoff for Tuesday’s gourmet dishes.

I’m going to try the sea bass with mashed sweet potatoes, the chicken with prosciutto, the shrimp lettuce wraps and the vegetable manicotti. The kids will also enjoy Alaina’s daughter’s creations: raspberry thumbprint cookies and pecan cheesecake. YUM!!!!

I would not recommend something I don’t believe in. Alaina is fully licensed and her food is made from scratch by a small, local family business which I proudly support without receiving anything in return. Will you join me?

🧈🕯️ Psst, have you heard of a BUTTER CANDLE?

😋Pictured is one of our Honest whole wheat EVOO sourdough loaves with a lovely wintery scene of 8 cozy, hand-carved pine trees and a butter candle in the middle, the BEST idea for a special brunch, appetizer or dinner!

🗓️ As soon as we are back to baking in 2024, you can have your own loaf of sourdough! Let us know in the comments if you’d like to be notified in a few weeks when these loaves become available again.

👉 Here is how to easily delight everyone at a gathering:

👩🏻‍🍳 You make a compound butter (melt butter in a small pot or pan with some roasted garlic and/or herbs of your choice, plus salt if using unsalted butter) and strain into a paper cup or a cup lined with parchment. Add a food safe wick (see NOTES below).

🕰️ Let it solidify in the refrigerator or freezer and voilà, you have created a butter candle! SO EASY!

🥖 Take a loaf of really good bread, cut out a hole the size of your candle, remove candle from paper and stuff into the hollowed-out bit.

🔥 Light wick and watch as your beautiful flavored butter melts. Slice the crumb you removed, dip in the butter and give thanks that you are alive and well enough to enjoy this heavenly experience!!! 🙌

NOTES:

🐝 I used “Bee Line Organic H**p wick with beeswax, set of three” from Amazon. I have seen negative reviews on other wicks (smoke, unpleasant smell) but this one worked perfectly for the butter candle.

🤗 A wider candle will make dipping easier.

🫕 Cutting your bread into thin strips will make for a fun dipping experience if using a sturdy bread like this sourdough or an Italian loaf. If using brioche, challah or other softer bread, cube and provide bamboo skewers or fondue fourchettes.

🔪 Dont be afraid to slice more bread around the candle to keep dipping, but keep a safe distance from the melted butter to avoid spills and burns!

💡 Ideally, to preserve the integrity and beauty of your presentation, you would have one decorated loaf to hold the butter and slice a different loaf for dipping. You could offer a tray with different kinds of bread! Pretzel, French, seeded, cranberry-walnut, Italian, sourdough… You can also experiment with cinnamon-flavored butter or whatever takes your fancy. The sky’s the limit! ENJOY!!!
