Our school year has begun.

To make our lives a little easier in the mornings for lunch-packing, I like to make 'pocket sandwiches'. Even though you cannot tell, the ones in this photo are pizza pocket: ground beef, pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni.

I rotate the types that I make so that it doesn't get 'old'. This past week, we made ham and cheese pockets and also sloppy joe pockets.

How do you make your 'back-to-school' life easier?

I shared recently that I made several eggplant dips. But I made sure to save enough eggplant to prepare this delicious recipe for our family.

I altered the recipe a bit. I didn't have any broccoli on hand, so I added chickpeas and sausage I had in the freezer that I'd already precooked.

Thai basil from our garden not only made our dinner bowls look lovely but also intensified and married the Asian flavors all the more!

If you have a spare eggplant lying around that needs directed into a delicious recipe, look no farther.

Do you like eggplant?!

Several weeks ago, I turned quite a few eggplants into three different eggplant dips: Romanian Ajvar (eggplant and red pepper spread) and Eggplant & Olive Tapenade (one with tomato paste and one without)

They were delicious on toasted sourdough and I had plenty to can for us to eat later as well as use as unique gifts.

We've been a little MIA lately, enjoying time together as a family, doing a little traveling, healing from ear infections, and beginning our school year well.

While I do love being at the Bartlesville Farmer's Market and supplying local stores with sourdough bread, family time takes priority, and I'm so glad for the flexibility.

We hope to see you this Saturday at the Bartlesville Farmers Market, but if you happen to need something before then, both Price's Old Fashion Meat Market and Early Bird Market will have a freshly baked supply of traditional sourdough bread boules by late afternoon today.
