I've been drawn to books and post cards in particular; the handwritten inscriptions and how the owner must have felt receiving or purchasing the item. Did they treasure it as much as I do? Did they treasure it as much as I hope you will? Another passion of mine has been photography. Imagine walking along the beach gazing out upon the ocean and there is the perfect sunset. Imagine standing in a fie
ld, or a park and right in front of you is a wonder of nature. Imagine standing in front of a piece of history. Imagine seeing beauty in an “everyday “ object or almost everything we take for granted. I reproduce that image providing the viewer with a piece of art that conveys a message, a story, or just the sheer beauty of an object or scene. Every step of the production conveys what the artist captured with an artist's eye. I don’t use a brush; I use a camera. I don’t use canvas; I use premium photo paper. I don’t use oil paint; I use the finest inks to produce a colorful image. In essence, I did the art work; now you the buyer can become the poet or writer to complete the work of art or simply frame the photo for your own enjoyment. From Yakira: As a little girl I loved going through my mother's hope-chest. The ceder lined trunk was filled with delightful treasures like grandpa's love letters to grandma, some of her collectibles, hand embroidered linens, and family pictures. As an adult and mother of five I still draw pleasure from these items. It's tangible history and I love it. I love doing things with my hands. Digging in the garden, kneading dough, embroidering linens, even simple scissors and glue can bring me delight. But my greatest passion is fiber. I love the feel of wool as I draft a fine yarn, the color play of the fibers as they pass through my fingers, the joy from knitting a wearable piece of art. There is something magical about turning a simple piece of fluff into not only a useful item but a one of a kind expression. It’s taken me years to develop the skills needed for spinning and knitting at such a high level. My professional quality items are created with joy for those that will appreciate not only the fine workmanship, but the hours it takes to produce each item. My art is functional and created to be used. Like any quality product it is durable and will give joy for many years with proper care. Please follow the use and care instructions included with every item. history and I love it. Come along with us on our journey through Our Grandma's Hope-chest.
