Fresh food is expensive and when budgets are tight it tends to be the first thing removed from the grocery list. The Atlantic Beach Fresh Food Initiative exists to provide fruits and veggies free of charge to the families of students involved at the local community centers. With this initiative we hope to enhance the work of the local community centers and Dig Local, partnering to encourage health
y eating habits and lifestyles through on site cooking classes, planting community gardens, and providing healthier after school snack options. Our goal is to provide a bag of fresh produce weekly to families of students involved at the Gail Baker and Jordan Park Community Centers, currently a total of 47 families! We will be partnering with Alvarez Farms to provide and deliver the fresh fruits and veggies weekly. The cost to provide these families with fresh produce is $15 per family per week. We will also include simple and healthy recipes for the produce each week. Join our Buy-One-Give-One program and purchase a 10lb+ bag of produce for your family and provide one for a family in the community for $30 a week. Bags are available for pick up at the Jordan Center every Friday between 4:00pm and 5:30pm. Follow the link under "website" to join! Donations can be made through the Beaches Vineyard Church.
