Atlanta Comes Alive With the Sights, Sounds and Tastes of the Caribbean
“Caribbean Christmas” highlights the true spirit of the Holiday Season, island-style
[November 30, 2012, Stone Mountain, GA] – This holiday season, shopping will take a back seat to food, fun and Christmas cheer, as Atlanta comes alive with the taste, aroma and merriment of a true Caribbean Christmas. On Sunday, December 18th at 2:00 pm, Jump Oasis Party Studio in Stone Mountain, GA will once again be transformed into a Caribbean Winter Wonderland. In its 3rd year, Caribbean Christmas will attract hundreds of people as they gather to enjoy traditional and contemporary Caribbean Christmas music, steel pan, a Caribbean dance showcase, Mocko Jumbies (stilt dancers), sample traditional delectable foods, drinks and desserts and shop for authentic Caribbean arts, crafts and gifts. The sunny Caribbean Islands are known for their lively nature, and Christmas, like in many other parts of the world, brings with it a unique, festive cheer that is rooted in tradition and culture. From Christmas carolers to hearty breakfasts consisting of “bush” (local herb) tea, baked bread and holiday desserts, a Caribbean Christmas is like no other. Each island celebrates with their own music, folk songs, and historic traditions, but the collective emphasis is primarily on community, friends, and family. Caribbean Christmas will feature traditional island foods, drinks and desserts from the Caribbean that are unique to this time of year like kalaloo (local greens), ducana (a coconut and sweet potato dumpling) and saltfish (codfish), sorrel drink(island punch), sweet bread and island black rum cake. Other regular favorites like johnny cakes, patés (fried turnovers filled with beef, seafood, chicken) and other tropical drinks will also be available. Chef Leroy Walwyn from Caribbean Flavors will feature some of their favorite dishes. “We are really looking forward to everyone coming out to enjoy a taste of the Virgin Islands at Caribbean Christmas", said Chef Leroy. Also, visitors can enjoy food from other vendors and a host of other island pastries, drinks and handmade items. Attendees of all ages will experience interactive performances and appearances by The Mocko Jumbie Stilt Dancers, Virgin Islands All Star Majorettes, Dynamics Carnival Troupe and Christmas carolers, and of course, Santa Claus. Children 3 and under are free. Ticket outlets: Thomas Bakery in Decatur, Jump Oasis in Snellville and online at www.jumpoasis.com..
