Anyone in Ohio?? Here's Mr. Mayflower's long lost relative!

Update: I am no longer available for adoption. If you adopted me, please let us know!
Novelty, OH – Introducing Douglas! Douglas is a young rooster who came from Cleveland City Kennels. He was found on the side of a highway with another rooster and a hen. Douglas is a cornish-cross rooster who needs a home where he can live out his life no matter how short or long it may be: He has been bred to grow at an extremely fast rate so that he could be butchered at a young age, so his body can't always handle the weight into adulthood. Even at Rescue Village on a restricted diet and access to fresh air and exercise, his lifespan cannot be guaranteed due to the higher risk of heart conditions or physical lameness due to his size. Please consider opening your heart to him, and providing him a happy, no-kill, forever home he deserves!
*If you are interested in setting up an appointment to meet him, please send an email and adoption application to: [email protected]. Download an adoption application here:http://media.wix.com/ugd/135e4b_8c5d01bc081c426c9951ffe741101c95.pdf
*If you adopt him, please let Adopt a Bird Network know!
*Birds cannot be shipped, they must be adopted in person.

Our first (and only) wedding at the new barn! The wedding of Mr. & Mrs. Mayflower!
The story of these two lovebirds:
In May, 2017, I get a call from my friend who had just found a chicken tossed to the side at a chicken plant after all its friends had been taken to slaughter. He had a broken leg, couldn't walk, and was mean as a snake. When he arrived at the farm, we treated him like we would all our other chickens, and made sure he had plenty of exercise, I limited his diet (because of his breed), and nursed him back to health. We spent lots of time together, and somehow that mean ole bird became one of the sweetest and most personable chickens on the farm. He has long outlived what most chickens of his breed live, and in that time he has grown bigger, but is very happy and healthy. He is too big to hang out with my mini chickens, and he gets major anxiety if he's around a lot of movement (bad eyesight). I knew he was lonely, but he seemed ok just hanging out with the other chickens separated by a fence.
Fast forward to two months ago...I get another call from a girl who had literally picked up a chicken off the side of the road right after it fell from a chicken truck (the other one who fell off wasn't as lucky). She knew this girl needed a farm where she would be loved and taken care of, and I was happy to take her in. At first I was gonna put her with the little chickens, but as time went on it seemed that she was more interested in Mr. Mayflower, as was he. So, we started with little visits through the fence, followed by short supervised visits together, and soon realized all that they needed was each other.
They love each other, spend every waking (and non-waking) hour together. And Mr. Mayflower's anxiety has gone down tremendously! Soooo, of course, we knew what needed to come next...a grand chicken wedding for these two lovebirds that are truly lucky to be alive and lucky to be in love!

Thanks to my friends Leslie Wells and Sandra Bianco for helping "shoot" and wrangle chickens at this most awesome, yet ridiculous event!

All the babies are laying now...the one on its side on the left is from a grown bantam chicken for comparison (which are still mini chickens), and all the teeny ones are from the babies. So cute.

Working in the garden today.
We love to reuse any old materials from the previous year. Save those coco fiber liners that are all shredded and gross from last year, and before putting mulch on top of the soil, add a little of the fibers around the plant...it helps keep soil in place.
They can also be wrapped in a loose ball and put twine around them, and hang them in a tree for the birds...they'll appreciate that for their nests. :)

The little Storybook Garden is coming along....
A week behind schedule, but those freezing days last week set me back. Got some extra helpers today as you can see.

Woodburning a sign for the garden....at this slow rate I am thinking long and hard about switching from "The Storybook Garden" to just "The Garden." :)
At least it's beautiful out today. Birds chirping, lambs in the garden behind me, dogs napping next to me.

Sugar and her new brother, Shilah...he is a Navajo-Churro sheep, and Shilah is a Navajo name meaning Brother. Look up about these sheep, they're considered a rare breed and the history is interesting.

Cell phone video of what's happening at the farm today. All our trees that Mark chopped down in order to build our house will actually be going back into the house. Beams (not load-bearing as that wouldn't pass code), ceiling or wall treatments, mantle, farm table, shelving, and our twin-bed porch swing will all be made from these. And the saw dust is going in the gardens.
Trees include white oak, cherry oak, hickory, and poplar.
