Brookhaven Bayit

Brookhaven Bayit Brookhaven Bayit is a warm community for Jews of all backgrounds, with fun and free events for young adults & families. Housed at Congregation Or VeShalom.

B@OVS (aka Brookhaven Bayit) connects in innovative and creative ways to young adults in their 20s, 30s, and 40s by fostering a welcoming community, a celebration of Jewish life and learning, the pursuit of social justice, and a commitment to shared experiences. The ‘B’ represents Bayit (pronounced ‘bah-yeet’), the Hebrew word meaning, literally and metaphorically – home. Bayit is the most meaning

ful word we could think of to describe a new kind of Jewish communal family whose members are profoundly connected in the celebrating and bettering of both their broader community family together with their nuclear Jewish family. B@OVS: You’re – your - home now. Mission: To connect young adults in new ways to Judaism and hopefully, over time, when they are ready, to Congregation Or Veshalom , a very special 100+ year-old synagogue and community. B@OVS: Inspiring connection and community. No matter your generational identity, we all want the same things at the end of the day: some happiness, love, community, and to leave the world better than we found it, despite how differently we express it or how differently that might look.
“Thirsty Thursdays”
B@OVS takes Jewish learning to a higher level in members’ homes around town. Surrounded by friends old and new with a drink and nosh in hand, we mine the tradition for meaning and relevance. At B@OVS we believe that Jewish learning can inspire our lives. We believe that Torah is relevant to the modern world, if only we dive deep enough and ask the toughest questions. We believe that Jewish learning can happen anywhere – a living room, a microbrewery, a coffee shop. Learning topics for Thirsty Thursdays vary, from Jewish ethics to ritual, from history to probing the meaning of life. Come for a chill night filled with wine and wonder, where we open up the tradition and its texts. Dive deep into Jewish thought and learning within a supportive peer community, regardless of where you may currently be on your Jewish journey. Come for a B@OVS chill night filled with drink, nosh, and wonder.
