Annual fundraiser benefitting Communities In Schools of Georgia Cobb/Marietta. , the Adult Spelling Bee, Friday, March 13, 2026 @ the Strand in Marietta.

This fun event brings together community leaders, business owners, and volunteers. What is the Adult Spelling Bee? A night of laughs, some really unusual on-stage antics, and truly funny attempts at spelling difficult words – that’s the “Bee”, a once a year event, hosted by Communities In Schools of Marietta/Cobb County (CISMCC). Corporate and team sponsorships, ticket sales, and donations raised

fund Communities In Schools’ programs, including Reality U, the Georgia Literacy Connection events and training and development of CISMCC’s Site Coordinators. How does the Bee Work? Participants will spell in teams of 3. Each team will be sponsored, with the team name and costumes being determined by the sponsor. As each word is given the team will consult quietly amongst themselves and one person per team will approach the microphone and spell the word given by the emcee. Participants have the opportunity to access a “Buzzline” when they are challenged by a word. Each team is limited to five “Buzzlines”. Audience members, a Google search, phone call or FaceTime call are the options for “Buzzlines.” If the word is spelled correctly the team moves forward, if the word is misspelled the individual who spelled the word is eliminated. Once an entire team has been eliminated they have one opportunity to come back into the game via text bidding by the audience, raising $100 to come back in with one member from that team. How to be part of the Bee? General admission tickets for the Bee are just $25. VIP tickets are $50 and include exclusive access to a pre-event and intermission party with heavy hors d’oeuvres, desserts and 2 drink tickets. Other sponsorship opportunities include, “Queen Bee”, “Honeycomb”, “Word”, “Letter” and “Beehive” Sponsoring a second chance, $100, contributing to the silent auction and taking part in the 50/50 raffle the day of the Bee. Our mission is straightforward – to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. The vision of CIS of Marietta/Cobb County (CISMCC) is that through a powerful, collaborate community effort, families will be provided with the necessary resources, inspiration and motivation for all students to obtain a high school diploma.

That’s a wrap on an incredible Adult Spelling Bee 🐝

From Grease to pickles, bathrobes to peace and love, and everything in between—this year’s teams brought creativity, personality, and so much fun to the stage.

Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and cheered us on throughout the night. And a big congratulations to our champions, the Blue Man Bundts from Nothing Bundt Cakes 💙

We had an amazing time—and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!

At the heart of the Adult Spelling Bee is something much bigger than the stage 🐝

This event exists to support the important work of Communities In Schools of Georgia in Marietta/Cobb County, Inc. —ensuring students have the resources, relationships, and support they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

We were honored to hear from Michelle Carter, Regional Director, who shared the mission and the real impact these programs have on students in our community. Her message was a powerful reminder of why we gather each year.

Because of the generosity of our attendees, sponsors, and supporters, funds raised from this event go directly toward sustaining and growing these programs.

Each team takes the stage with their own walk-on music, setting the tone before a single word is even spelled. It’s the grand reveal—when costumes debut, personalities shine, and the audience gets their first look at the creativity and humor each team brings to the Bee.

From themed music to over-the-top entrances, the energy in the theatre is electric. Teams make their way through the aisles, engaging the crowd, drawing laughs, and immediately pulling everyone into the spirit of the night.

It’s more than an entrance—it’s a performance. And every year, it sets the stage for an unforgettable evening.

Starting the night off right ✨

Our VIP pre-event on the 4th floor of the Strand set the tone for an incredible evening. Sponsors, community leaders, and teams gathered to enjoy great food from 1885 Grill - Acworth and desserts donated from Nothing Bundt Cakes before the competition kicked off.

With the rooftop open and views of the Marietta Square, it was the perfect backdrop to connect, celebrate, and get ready for the Bee 🐝

A very special thank you to this years Spell Word Master, Crossman 🐝

Lisa put in an incredible amount of time and creativity to build the word list for this years Adult Spelling Bee. From carefully balancing levels of difficulty to crafting thoughtful and often humorous sentences—sometimes even featuring past spellers and current participants—her work truly brought the competition to life.

From everyday words like “businesses” to crowd-stoppers like “hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia,” she kept everyone on their toes.

We are so grateful for her dedication and the care she put into creating this years word list.

Talk about a tough job… not only do they have to make sure every word is spelled correctly, but they also have to pronounce some of the most challenging words we could throw at them!
