Recently I have been working on getting orders finished and out the door. I am so thankful for the amount of orders I’ve had in the last few months.

The drawback to working on orders is that it is hard for me to find time to work on other knives that I can post for sale here. I finally found a gap where I can commit to making a handful before I have to start working on knives for blade show Atlanta. Here are 4 of the knives I’m working on.

The top one is baker forge coppermai with a more classic “Hossom style” swedge. I think it shows off the copper really well. The next one down is a piece of Nichols boomerang Damascus that plays super well with the angles of the blade. The bottom 2 are cpm-154 that are going to be a hand rubbed satin finish that I’m thinking I might take to different grits.

The weather is nice and I’m having some fun in the shop!

I love getting orders that I’m allowed to have a little fun with. This customer chose this piece of mammoth ivory and allowed me to add a little a little flare to it. I think the distressed bronze anodizing on the titanium works perfectly with the turquoise colors in the mammoth. The liners, screws, and pocket clip are all anodized to match.

I hope everyone had a great New Years!

One thing I want to do more of this year is make more tools for people. I have been making small thing to help me in the shop ever since I started knifemaking and I figured I might as well go ahead and make this that other people can use.

A lot of the equipment we use as knifemakers can get pretty expensive. There’s no need for all the little things to be expensive as well. This can be especially hard to justify for any hobbyist makers. I have designed a couple of tools so far and hope to add more to the list depending on what people are interested in so if you have any ideas or want something for your own shop, I’d love to hear it.

The first item I’m going to be selling is the center/height scribe. I never really liked the kind that rides against the side of the blade because if there are any slight warps, it just follows them. You also can’t remark the center line after you have started grinding bevels. This makes it more difficult after heat treating to verify that everything is lined up when finish grinding. My version uses a carbide scribe that locks down with a thumb screw. Nice and easy to adjust if you have blades of different thicknesses. You can also use the scribe by itself.

The other tool I made is a belt splitter. I personally don’t use these a whole lot but I know there are people that do. For me, it was crazy to spend $60+ on something that gets so little use. But when you need to split a belt for that oddball task, there’s no way around it. Mine uses a 3 part construction with two parts housing the blade that slide into the main body and then snap into place. This also has a stainless steel plate to prevent any abrasion to the plastic body itself.

I’ll post some videos later of me using these tools.

Today’s knife is a Nasty Mike with ivory g10 and red liners. I have been messing around more with stone washing so this one has a light stone wash finish on the blade. The blade length on this is 3-3/4” and the overall length is 7-7/8”. The blade steel is CPM-154.
