Hey all you Asheville Area folk who like to get dressed up and have fun...I am recruiting for our Halloween Brue Ha Con...where a bunch of ladies and a few gentleman perform this dance at places around town during the Halloween season. NO we are not practicing witchcraft! We are not a coven!!! We just love to get dressed up, hang out together, dance and share a Halloween thing...JUST FOR FUN!!! Welcome to the Asheville VooDoo page. We hope you were able to attend this year’s Asheville Mardi Gras 2017 parade. If you DID attend the parade, you may have caught one of our VooDoo Dolls or our Gris Gris bags. These are basically meant to be for fun…DEFINITELY not meant for any kind of black or negative magic, but they do have the potential, combined with one’s deeply held spiritual beliefs to become good luck charms – “good Mojo,” in other words. Gris Gris bags are similar to Native American medicine bags and contain a specific number of natural and man-made objects, each with a particular power or meaning. Unlike medicine bags, they are not meant to be worn in the open, but are usually placed in a pocket or attached out of sight to a piece of clothing. If you want to activate your Gris Gris, you need to open the bag, take all of the items out and decide which ones you wish to keep and which ones you would choose to replace. Just be sure that what you place back into the bag has a particular meaning to you and that the number of the items equal an odd number.
The 7 objects we have chosen to include are :
1. A penny to help bring you wealth
2. A stone to help connect you to the physical earth
3. A shell to help connect you to the natural world
4. A Bean to connect you to new life and new opportunities
5. A peppercorn to add a little spice to your life
6. A feather to give you wings and help you achieve your lofty goals
7. And a cone of incense to smudge your bag after you replace the incense with something personal (lock of hair, fingernail, piece of personal clothing, etc.)
After you have placed your odd number of items back into the bag, speak into the bag a wish or desire, then breathe into the bag. Tightly tie the bag closed and put a drop or two of some kind of essence oil, or other light oil on the outside, light the incense and smudge the bag in the smoke. Place the bag out of sight on your person or in your purse or pocket. The more you believe in the power of the Gris Gris, the better it will work. This Gris Gris bag is NOT to be used for anything negative…keep your wishes positive and hopeful. For more information, there are many Web sites that explain the positive power of Gris Gris. OK everyone!! THIS Sunday (rescheduled because of last Sunday's snow storm) Jan. 31st is the 2016 Cajun CookOff. I hope everyone comes out to enjoy all the great Cajun food by some of Asheville's top chefs! (and from some amateurs like me). We have kinda gone overboard - VooDoo Krewe is bringing Crawfish bisque and Crawfish Pie as our main dishes. But for the Gluten Free crowd, we will also have Traditional Red Beans and Rice...and Vegetarian Red Beans and Rice for our veggie friends. And for desert, we will have a lemon-cream cheese King Cake! AND THAT IS JUST US! Basically for $15 cover, it is all you can eat of some fantastick food!! It will be way worth your time and money...I garrontee!

This is a photo of Ron Davidson, member of the VooDoo Krewe at the Asheville Cajun Cook-off. We were serving up Swamp gumbo (crawfish and gator sausage) with fried gator bites. No, we did not "win" but we thank everyone who voted for us! We are not professional chefs - we only served up TRADITIONAL Cajun food!
