This little acorn is my lifeline when Iโm not at home! ๐ฐ๐ค๐
It holds my steroids that I have to take three times a day at specific times, for Adrenal Insufficiency.
๐ฆA little AI awareness for those that donโt know ๐ฆ
Adrenal Insufficiency is a rare disorder that only affects about 350 people per 1 million people, with my type (2 and 3 are combined for stats) making up roughly 200 of that. In Adrenal Insufficiency the body doesnโt produce adequate amounts of cortisol due to a signaling problem or damage along the HPA axis (hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal axis) The rarest and most dangerous type is called Addisons Disease and is caused by autoimmune destruction of the adrenal glands. (I do NOT have that)
All types of Adrenal Insufficiency must take daily steroids to replace the cortisol our bodies do not properly make, and must carry an emergency steroid injection. We also have to stress dose (take higher dosages) when sick or injured.
For my type, I could need my injection in the event of a very serious illness or injury, or traumatic accident (ie car accident) to prevent a life threatening complication called, Adrenal Crisis.
Adrenal crisis happens when cortisol goes too low and your body canโt get it up during a time of extreme stress. Symptoms include extreme fatigue, fainting, dizziness, weakness, confusion and disorientation, inability to speak, nausea and vomiting, paleness and sweating, severe abdominal and back pain, very low blood pressure drop and possibly shock. (If you ever see this, and Iโm unconscious, INJECT and call 911. If Iโm conscious, ask me if I need my injection โฅ๏ธ)
Some types of Adrenal Insufficiency are lifelong and some are not, mine is likely NOT and I know God has healing in store for me soon!!! ๐๐ผ
