many many energies are burning in the fire

every time my ear extends to the heavens, receptive to my ancestors' whispers, something has shifted

my mama reflected yesterday that it must be exhausting; this experience of constant reformation

this blood cycle has been the longest I've ever experienced. if I had a sexual partner whose body produced semen I might wonder if I were pregnant.

the night before last I dreamed of breastfeeding my baby. her hair was dark like midnight

a healer in my life wondered alongside me what my body might be holding onto this cycle

every morning I stick a thermometer under my tongue and receive mostly 9s and 8s

when everything has crumbled, even the dreams that were dreamed amongst the wreckage, the ones you thought were infallible or complete, you get really clear about the only thing that matters

I remember now.

today I baked a custom order for a sweet neighbor! delicious pumpkin spice scones made with leftover pumpkin pie filling ( )! also some delectable apricot scones. both made with creamy organic coconut milk and brushed with brown sugar to add a layer of crunch.

all packaged in irredescent baggies and labelled with ombre stamps because why not add some color? 🙌

The raffle is for one delicious homemade organic + local pumpkin pie!

Here's how the raffle will work:

I am deeply humbled to have made fifteen pies for my community, to be sustained myself, and to donate $80 to the ! Thank you to for the beautiful flour! And to for bringing the inspiration with her Baking for Black Women fund.

I am grateful for my ancestors who passed down this gift of food alchemy through my bloodline. To those who have given me their trust and invested in this adventure.

I feel so hopeful about the direction we are all going together, as a community, committed to justice, liberation, and dreams manifesting into reality.

These Tender Hands | Bakery & Apothecary

My name is River and I live in the Fairlington neighborhood in Northern VA. I identify as a healer, kitchen witch, herbalist, jewish priestess, pleasure liberation worker, photographer, and of course baker!

During this time that we have all spent our days in our homes, with our neighbors, and feeling our bodies slowww down, I have spending much of my time baking and cooking deeply nourishing medicine for myself. Recently, I began offering some of these nourishing foods to my community on a sliding scale.

My intention with creating These Tender Hands is to serve my community by spending time in the kitchen, the most sacred room in my house, and to celebrate my ancestral lineage by honoring the gifts that have been passed down to me.

I am so grateful that you are here and am excited to continue to grow in a way that both supports my healing and liberation, as well as all people's. Thank you for showing up.
