A very French tradition, the Galette des Rois is served at the family celebration for the Epiphany and inside the cake, is ‘la fève’ (which used to be a broad bean and is now a small trinket). An adult at the table cuts the cake into the correct number of servings and the most junior member of the family hides under the table. As the adult plates each piece, he asks the junior member to say who will receive the piece and passes the slice accordingly. Whoever finds la fève in their serving is crowned the king or queen for the year!

The St. Honoré cake is named for the French patron saint of bakers and pastry chefs, Saint Honoré or Honoratus (d. 600 AD), bishop of Amiens. This classic French dessert is a circle of puff pastry at its base with a ring of pâte à choux piped on the outer edge.
