Yesterday was such a feast of senses that I almost forgot we were in the constraints of a pandemic. A beautiful classical quartet serenaded our outdoor yoga class at the Center, and then we went to get donuts at Joyfully Baked then headed over to GROW HUB for a perfect outdoor mini-festival with some phenomenal folk music by the The Front Porch Backsteppers. And of course, I bought another wagonload of native plants, and spent the afternoon in this glorious weather in the garden. In many ways, the length of time this pandemic has limited us has actually served to redefine our perceptions of consumption and expectation. I would take a day like yesterday, with its many layers of gentle, consistent, and holistic enjoyment all within a three-mile radius, over a big splashy trip to a theme park, for example, which right now would probably just feel like overconsumption and overload. Slowing down, pulling in for awhile, and then gently opening back up and deeply savoring the subtle joys of what each and every ordinary day has to offer is a great silver lining of this challenging year. Hoping it will continue for everyone going forward as we all heal in different ways, without the fear/risk of COVID, in wellness and peace.
