Acton Coffee House is a family owned café offering a variety of coffee, tea and pastries. We are co Acton Coffee House is owned and run by a local family.
Acton Coffee House provides high quality beverages in an inviting setting with skilled and friendly service. We focus on coffee, but also provide a selection of teas and other drinks. We believe that small pleasures, like a good cup of coffee or tea, are a healthy way to keep oneself happy. Acton Coffee House is committed to selling coffee and tea that are fairly traded and sustainably grown. Our
coffee is roasted locally in Massachusetts by a roaster who follows fair trade principles in all his purchases. He carries only organically grown beans and works hard on maintaining a personal relationship with the people who do business with his company. Help us prove that a trading model that takes farmers' and the Earth's well being into account is viable: make a difference while you are tasting the difference! We would like our coffee house to be an integral part of the community and to serve local citizens as a meeting and mixing place and an escape.

The season is upon us. Whatever you’re celebrating, an Acton Coffee House gift bag or box can help! Combine a pound of coffee, a tin of tea, a french press, maybe a set of coffee cups. Throw in a few delicious Happy Chocolatier Cubze. You decide the contents; we’ll wrap it up prettily. 10% off of any gift bag of $25 or higher value.
We will be closed on Thanksgiving. We will be open normal hours on Friday. Happy Thanksgiving!
We offer our appreciation on Veterans Day, as always, with a 20% discount for veterans.
As previously mentioned, our roaster, Dean's Beans, has informed us that they -- reluctantly -- need to increase prices, effective 11/18. The increases are between 20% and 30%, depending on the bean, but I know Dean is sincere when he says he hates raising prices. Same goes for us, but we will have to do so on the same date. (Milk prices are up too!)
So you have a few more days to stock up on coffee pounds if you wish! As always we will be transparent about the increase. As Dean stated in his letter, despite the increase his, and our prices are still below what most roasters and cafes charge. If you do comparison shopping, don't forget to take into account amounts! Lots of cafes sell 12 oz "pounds" and some cafe's large coffees are our medium!
We will be open normal hours today, though we are still short-staffed, so your patience is appreciated, and there may be menu modifications at times.
We are short 2 baristas today, so unfortunately we will have to close at 2. There may be other changes to our hours this week. Please check our website for updates. Sorry for the inconvenience.
We're hiring! We're looking for a barista to work 30+ hours/week. Click on "Employment" under "More" in the menu to access an application. You can also apply through ZipRecruiter.
You may have read in The Boston Globe or New York Times about the new chain of cafes, Blank Street Cafe, that is growing fast and attempting to offer a different, automated, streamlined cafe experience. Well, we tried the first Blank Street Cafe that has opened in Boston and, while the cold brew was fine, we're here to report, once again, that robots don't have taste buds! As a result the espresso was not good. As our baristas can tell you, a sour or bitter espresso can occur under the hand of the best barista. The art is in making the adjustments to correct it. I guess the super automatic machine at Blank Street hasn't figured that out yet!
Happy beginning of the school year! Please note: We will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5. Enjoy the holiday!
FYI, the wholesale price of nitro cold brew just went up, but we're going to eat the increase. Doing our part to fight inflation!
For you literature and art lovers, the summer issue of owner Bill Ray's journal The Courtship of Winds is now online. Check it out:
The Courtship of Winds is a semiannual online journal that publishes poetry, prose poetry, fiction, essays, art, and short pieces of drama and music. Contributors include well-established and emerging writers and artists.
We're hiring! We are looking for a barista (full time). Experience in a specialty coffee cafe or other food service is preferable but not a necessity. Click on the "More" tab on our website and go to "Employment" to download an application.
FYI, Iggy's Bread just sent us a price increase but we're going to eat this one, rather than up our prices. Crazy economy!
Have you tried a Shakerato or Affogato yet? Both are perfect for summer weather!
We will be closed on Independence Day. Enjoy the holiday!
Don't forget Dad! We have many nice ways to make his day happy!
This year's winners of the annual Acton Coffee House/Silver Unicorn Bookstore Poetry Contest are Sarah Coletti and Cam Dyer-Hawes! Honorable Mention goes to Kathryn Sadakierski for best coffee poem! You can see their poems by going to the Acton Coffee House website and clicking on Poetry in the menu:
We are happy to announce that Cam Dyer-Hawes and Sarah Coletti have won the 2022 Acton Coffee House/Silver Unicorn Bookstore Poetry Contest! Honorable Mention goes to Kathryn Sadakierski for the best poem about coffee. As always, the competition is less important than the celebration of the art of p...
Please note: Our hours on Memorial Day, 5/30, will be 7:00 - 1:00.
Check out the Boston Women's Market this Saturday 11-4. More info here: http://www.westactonvillageworks.com/events For Saturday, we will take 20% off pound (or half pound) bags of our Ethiopian beans. (Dean's Beans has, since 2014, worked with Grounds for Health in Ethiopia to develop a community-based cervical cancer detection and treatment program in the communities from which they get their beans.)
The latest events and happenings at West Acton Villageworks and around town.
We have travel mugs of all sorts that will keep your drink at temp for hours. And remember, there's a discount if you bring your own mug, rather than using take out cups. Good for you; good for the environment!
Tomorrow is Mother's Day! I'm sure your mom deserves thanks and something sweet, so we're taking 10% off of Happy Chocolatier Cubze gift boxes.
Given where we are with climate change, every day needs to be Earth Day. To help, we offer a 20 cent discount on your coffee when you bring your own resuable mug. We will be getting new travel mugs in soon if you need to purchase one. Also, remember that we have reusable, metal straws for sale at $1.
We will be closed Easter Sunday.
Spring is here! And it's time for the annual Acton Coffee House/Silver Unicorn Bookstore Poetry contest! Email your best 3-6 poems to the cafe or the bookstore by April 30. The winner, announced in May, will win a free coffee, a tote bag, and $25 gift cards from both the cafe and the bookstore.
Due to the predictions of a winter storm, we will be closed Friday, Feb. 25. See you Saturday.
Regrettably, we need to increase prices. This is the first time we will have increased prices across the board. The increase is necessitated by increased costs of pretty much everything from rent to take out cups. As an example, the latter at one point doubled in price and currently -- when we can get them -- cost over 70% more than what we previously had been paying. And speaking of take out cups, it's a good time for a reminder that you can bring your own coffee mug and get a small discount on your cup of coffee. There will be a few exceptions, with no increase, but most items will increase approximately 7.5% in keeping with inflation. The increase is effective March 4.
The mask mandate in Acton has been lifted, effective 2/24. They are therefore optional in the cafe.
We have sweets for Valentine's!
We will close at 3:30 today due to the road conditions. Be safe!
We are open normal hours today.
In view of the winter storm, we will be closed Saturday, 1/29. Check here or our website Sunday for updates.
Acton Coffee House is a family-owned cafe that prides itself on offering high quality coffee that is organic and fairly traded, as well as fine organic teas, and pastries from local bakeries.
Due to the weather, we will open at 9 this morning. Be safe!
WE ARE SHORT-STAFFED TODAY!
YOUR PATIENCE IS APPRECIATED.
DEPENDING ON HOW BUSY IT IS WE MAY HAVE TO DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
* USE ONLY TAKE OUT CUPS
* SUSPEND POUR OVER COFFEE
* SUSPEND JUICES AND SMOOTHIES
THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.
It seems the snow will make travel hazardous tomorrow, so we will be closed for the morning. We plan tentatively to open at noon, but check back here, our website, or our voicemail for updates. Stay safe!
Happy New Year! Let's hope the pandemic relents in '22! Meanwhile, we have installed new plexiglass dividers between our tables that are not six feet apart. The mask mandate is in place in Acton. We will continue to monitor the situation and take whatever steps are necessary to protect the health of our customers and staff.
For those of you who may be uncomfortable coming in to the cafe, remember that, while we do not use any of the delivery services (for the simple reason that good coffee will not be good by the time it is delivered), you can order whole bean or ground coffee and many retail items through our website. You can order them to be mailed or to be picked up in the cafe. Just click on the "Shop: Coffee, Tea, More" button on the menu.
We will close at 3 PM on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and we will be closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Enjoy the holidays!
We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. We will be open normal hours Friday, 11.26. Hope you have a safe, enjoyable holiday!
We are now offering Steeped Coffee Bags from Blk & Bold Coffee. Steeped coffee is the latest idea in single-serve coffee. Some of us take a pass on k-cups and such attempts at quick, single serve coffee. The difference here is that Steeped Coffee company has partnered with specialty coffee roasters to ensure high quality coffee in the bag! So if you need a quick cup at work or home, this is the way to go!
This Saturday, October 16, from noon to 5, the Boston Women's Market will be at West Acton Villageworks, on the lawn near Twin Seafood. Check the Villageworks website for details . In conjunction with the Women's Market, we will be offering our Ethiopian coffee at 15% off a pound bag! As you may know, Dean's Beans always engages with the coffee farming communities where they get their beans. In the community from which they get their Ethiopian beans, one of their projects has been cervical cancer screening and treatment.
Here's hoping the slow improvement in Covid numbers continues! For some recent data, check the Covid Policies page on our website.

We are of course keeping our eye on the new threat from the Delta variant of Covid. Check our website for a policy update that includes lots of current data and information: https://www.actoncoffeehouse.com/covid-policies In brief, we are for now sticking to our policy of asking unvaccinated folks to mask up in the cafe and allowing fully vaccinated people to use their judgment about whether to wear a mask inside the cafe. We will of course make changes as necessary to keep our customers and staff safe. You will see some of our baristas wearing masks, others not. They are all fully vaccinated and the choice of whether to wear a mask is theirs.
We are monitoring the impact of the Delta variant and the recommendations of the CDC as well as directives from the Governor. The CDC recently updated its guidance on masks as follows:
We will be closed on Independence Day. Happy Fourth!
Don't forget Dad! Some ideas for Father's Day: a gift card; a pound of his favorite coffee; a travel mug or hydration bottle; an airtight canister for coffee/tea; a set of fine espresso, cappuccino, and latte cups!
We are accelerating our reopening plan, as the state and local numbers are looking good! Beginning tomorrow, June 14, not only will all the tables and chairs return, but also masks will be optional for fully vaccinated customers. If you want to check the numbers for Middlesex County and Massachusetts, go here and here

This Saturday, June 12, is West Acton Spring Fling! Stop by anytime of day! We, along with other local businesses, will be contributing a percentage of our day's sales to support the Friends of Gardner Field in their effort to refurbish Gardner Playground.
