Last night we finished reading Matthew 18. We read about the shepherd who had 100 sheep and lost one of them. This sheep wandered off. Why? It was not close enough to the shepherd. We need to keep close to Jesus. Come next week to read chapter 19 with us!

This evening we read the second part of Matthew 17. In verse 22 - 23 Jesus told the disciples that he would be killed, and on the third day rise again. The disciples were "filled with grief". They did not get the whole message. If the message from God makes us sad, or seems heavy or hard, we probably have missed half of the message. The gospel is always "good news". Not only "deny yourself and take up your cross", but "be my disciple...follow me". And, with Jesus, the best is always ahead.

In Matthew chapter 10 Jesus said that a cup of cold water is enough to give as a gift to a minister of the gospel. Does your church ask you to give more? Jesus told his disciples, "you have received the word of God for free, you should give it away for free." No one should ask for money for preaching the Word of God.

In Matthew 8 we read that Jesus did not have a place to lay his head. We also read he came to Peter's house. When Jesus was in their house he helped them worn a problem, and changed their lives. Jesus touched Peter's mother in law and took away her fever. Jesus' touch changes people.

In Matthew chapter 8 Jesus healed a man with leprosy by touching him. Leprosy is very contagious. Jesus was probably the first person who had touched this man for a long time. Jesus' touch has power to change lives.

Tonight we studied the first part of Matthew 5. Jesus said, "you are the salt of the earth". Salt creates thirst. Jesus is the source of living water. John 4:14
