One morning, before Deepavali, Malathi Selva Raju was reminiscing her good old kampong days, when her mum, Meenachi Selva Raju used to bake fresh pineapple tarts for the family and neighbours. The fresh aroma from the oven would awaken her neighbours and gather the kampong folk together for goodies and tea. Often, the pineapple tarts would be finished before the actual festivities arrived. ar, she was missing her mum’s pineapple tarts, and inspired from helping her mum to try her hand at baking tarts for a change. She tried her hand, and shared them with her office colleagues and friends.
“My family and colleagues found the tarts refreshing. One piece at a time, they just couldn’t seem to stop, and nothing was left for Deepavali. So I would bake another batch, and by this time, some friends placed orders. Their feedback and encouragement kept me going!“
