On this day last year, we opened our little coffee shop.
We had big dreams like establishing a zero-waste cafe in Naga City (happy to be the first!), supporting local farmers, and engaging in business sustainably. However, this 1-year journey has its highs and lows. There were days that we ran against time to cater to orders but there were also days that we waited until someone dropped by.
This experience has taught us a lot. Because we knew firsthand how to run a small business, it totally changed our perspectives in life. We had a deeper understanding of what it means to stand with farmers, how important it is to support locals, and why we need to fight for sustainability.
When the days do not favor us, we tell each other that no matter what the outcome of our business would be, we can say proudly that every cup of coffee was made out of love--for the people, for the environment, and for society. We took pride in every cup. Our coffee was an expression of who we are and what we advocate for. Thank you to our customers who became our friends. Thank you to our friends who became our regular customers. Thank you for believing in us 🧡💚
Although we feared that this day would come, we needed to face the truth that for now, we have to close the cafe in Naga City. We'll arrange pop-up cafes from time to time instead. In the meantime, Mich and I will focus on our individual work. We'll continue to be advocates of climate change mitigation, women and LGBT, and most importantly, farmers.
Again, we thank you immensely for being part of our journey. Who knows, maybe our next catch-up will be over a cup of zero-waste coffee 💖
