Wrapping a leather grip around the laburnum recurve.

Soaking the leather in warm water makes it soft and a bit malleable. Pressing it in shape with a polished object.

Gluing it in place with superglue.

One more of this because it’s just too good 🤤

Applying the last protective layer to the bow: a layer of wax that I mixed myself.

It’s a mixture of beeswax and carnauba wax with some turpentine to make it slightly easier to smear out.

Carnauba wax itself is harder than concrete, so it’s generally mixed with something softer like beeswax.

Waxing of the bow! These are always ASMR moments😏

After many layers of tung oil I apply a mixture of carnauba wax, beeswax and turpentine.

To spread it evenly throughout the surface I have to apply enough pressure and make it warm with friction.

Next part upcoming! Follow for more🫰

The plum/bamboo/black walnut reflex deflex longbow taking shape!

Still very heavy now, probably 90-100 pounds!

I think it will turn out to be a wonderful bow though

Beautiful ziricote nock overlays!

Some scrap pieces that threw in the bin a couple of years ago 😂

Glue used: Smooth on EA-40 epoxy

Floor tillering the reflex/deflex longbow.

Quite heavy at this point, so I’ll have to take off some wood in order to brace it.

The step after this will be gluing nock overlays and cutting the nock grooves, so I can start tillering with a string.

Wood used is plum and laminated with bamboo backing and a walnut handle.

Glued up a new bow!

Bamboo, plum and black walnut.

Plum & bamboo together makes for an interesting experiment.
Plum is supposedly excellent bow wood, so I’m excited to try it out.

I glued it with smooth on EA-40 epoxy and left it in the sun to cure on a hot day (32C).
