Hearing the word marriage when I was single used to send chills down my spine.
Why? Because I had lived with families and watched how tirelessly the partners poured themselves into keeping everything together.
It was admirable — the love, the care, the commitment — yet deep inside, I was terrified.
Terrified of losing myself in the endless cycle of responsibilities.
Terrified of waking up one day and realizing I no longer recognized the person in the mirror.
But time has a way of softening fears.
As I grew older, I began to see marriage differently. I realized it isn’t a cage that traps you — it’s a bond that refines you.
It’s not about giving up your freedom, but about sharing it with someone who cherishes it as much as you do.
I started to notice the quiet beauty in those routines I once feared — the morning smiles, the unspoken teamwork, the way love hides in the smallest acts of care.
It dawned on me that true marriage isn’t built on perfection; it’s built on patience, laughter, forgiveness, and choice.
Now, when I hear the word marriage, I no longer shiver.
Instead, my heart warms.
Because I understand it’s not just a word — it’s a promise.
A promise to grow, to heal, to love, and to keep choosing each other, even when it’s hard.
