Sometimes the best briefs are the ones with no reference.
This cake was a special one for me.
My mentor's wife reached out and asked me to make her son's first birthday cake. There was just one challenge...
There was no cake inspiration.
I asked, "What's his favorite cartoon?" She said, (Listener Kids). I searched everywhere but couldn't find a cake design based on it. Instead of settling, she simply told me:
"Just do your thing. I trust your creativity."
So I did.
I watched episodes of the cartoon, studied the characters, the colors, the mood, and started sketching ideas until this design came to life.
Every train, every letter, every little detail was handcrafted and completely edible.
The best part?
When she saw the cake, she couldn't stop staring at it. She was genuinely surprised that all the decorations were edible, and seeing how much she loved it reminded me why I do what I do.
