🍹 Part 1: Making a Tasty Juice Base
You can use any of your favorite fruit juices or common Nigerian drinks like Zobo or a Fruit Blend. Here is a simple, popular recipe for a blended fruit juice that is great for commercial
preparation.
🍍 Ingredients for a Tropical Blend
2 large ripe pineapples
3-4 oranges
1/2 inch fresh ginger (Optional, for an extra zing)
1/2 cup Sugar (or to taste)
4-5 cups Water (depending on desired thickness)
Preservative (Optional for commercial use): A few spoons of freshly squeezed Lemon Juice (natural) or a pinch of Sodium Benzoate (chemical, for longer shelf life, but use with caution and knowledge).
🥣 Juice Procedure
Prep the Fruit: Peel and cut the pineapples and ginger into small chunks. Peel the oranges and remove the seeds.
Blend: Place the pineapple, ginger, and a little water in a blender. Blend until very smooth.
Extract the Juice: Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or a cheesecloth/nut bag into a large bowl. Press or squeeze out all the liquid.
Combine & Sweeten: Add the orange juice (or squeeze the oranges directly into the pineapple juice), the remaining water, and sugar to the strained juice. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness and water until it's perfect.
Add Preservative (If using): Stir in the lemon juice or the very small, measured amount of food-grade preservative.
Chill: The juice should be very cold before packaging.
🛍️ Part 2: Sealing the Juice in Nylon Sachets
To achieve the sealed "sachet" look, you will need specific equipment.
🛠️ Materials Needed
Roll of Nylon: This is the special roll of continuous plastic tubing (often called sachet water nylon or factory nylon).
Funnel: For easy pouring.
Sealing Machine: The best and fastest method is an Impulse Sealer or a Hand Sealer designed for this type of nylon.
🔒 Sealing Procedure
Set Up the Nylon: Cut the roll of nylon into an appropriate length or use the roll directly on a holder.
Seal the Bottom: Using your impulse sealer, seal the nylon tubing across the width to create a closed bottom for the first sachet.
Fill the Sachet:
Place the funnel into the open end of the sealed nylon tube.
Carefully pour the cold juice into the bag, filling it about 3/4 full. You need to leave enough space at the top to seal it properly.
Seal the Top:
Hold the filled section of the nylon upright, ensuring no air bubbles are trapped at the top.
Use the impulse sealer to seal the nylon just above the liquid level, making a strong, continuous seal.
Cut and Repeat:
Cut the sealed sachet free from the remaining roll (if you are doing a batch, you can seal the top of the current one and the bottom of the next one in one go).
Repeat the process for all the jui
ce.
📌 Quick Note on Sealing without Electricity
In areas without reliable electricity, some people use a candle or a small flame to melt the plastic edges together, but this is not recommended as it is unsafe and the seals are often weak and messy. An affordable mini hand sealer is a much better and safer option.
