I was in my kitchen preparing moin-moin. I had boiled some water in the kettle to dissolve my bouillon cubes before adding it to my mixture. After using the kettle, I placed the hot kettle on a stool beside me and continued mixing my ingredients.
Everything was going smoothly.
Until I tried to reach for another ingredient on the slab.
Suddenlyā
āAh!ā
I cried out.
Without realizing it, I had brushed my leg against the hot kettle.
The heat stung sharply , I quickly reached for my bottle of honey, opened it, and gently applied it to the burned spot on my leg.
Almost instantly, the soothing relief began to set in.
Within minutes, the pain faded, and I was able to return to my cooking.
Why Every Kitchen Needs a Jar
I see so many posts lately of bakers and chefs with nasty oil splashes or gas burns. While things like salt, baking soda, or even raw eggs are common kitchen ācures,ā honey remains my absolute go-to for a few reasons:
⢠Pain Relief: It soothes the nerve endings almost instantly.
⢠Anti-Blistering: It creates a natural barrier that prevents those painful bubbles from forming.
⢠Scar-Free Healing: It promotes rapid skin regeneration.
Moments like this remind me that burns can happen easily in the kitchen ā from hot oil splashes, boiling water, or even a careless touch on a hot kettle.
Sometimes, the first thing we need is quick first aid to calm the burn and reduce the damage.
For me, honey has always been one of those helpful kitchen remedies.
But it is important to remember something else.
Honey and other kitchen remedies are only for first aid and minor burns. If the burn is serious, deep, or covers a large area of the body, it is very important to seek proper medical attention immediately.
A small jar of honey can help in the moment.
But your health should always come first.
To many people, honey is just something sweet.
But in my kitchen, it is more than that.
It is food.
It is comfort.
And sometimesā¦
It is the first help before the real help comes.
Good morning and do have a lovely weekend
