Pandan is one of those flavors that’s hard to pin down—but easy to love. Here’s how people usually describe it, in human terms:
Fragrant and sweet, but not sugary—more like a natural, aromatic sweetness
Grassy and herbal, similar to fresh-cut grass or young rice leaves
Vanilla-like, with a creamy, soft dessert vibe
Nutty, a little like coconut or almond
Warm and comforting, almost bakery-adjacent
A lot of folks call pandan the “vanilla of Southeast Asia”, because it adds aroma more than punchy flavor and makes desserts smell incredible.
