La Libertad church building project - León, México Greetings! The goal is to inform you on the work happening there, and ask for your prayers and if willing, your support.

The "La Libertad church building project" page exists to document the effort of the Christians of the La Libertad church congregation to collaboratively fund and build a place of worship in a suburb of León, México. This is a special newsletter, apart from the Baker family newsletter, which will detail the happenings in the construction of the church building for the La Libertad church plant. Let

me give you a quick timeline of events as far as this church-plant is concerned. In December 2010, nearly three years ago, two families from the Leon Sur congregation decided that it would be beneficial to plant a church in their area of the city (they were taking two different buses to get to church). They were sent off with the blessings of the church. Throughout these first years of the church, there have been times of strong membership, but also trials and difficulties, just like any church experience over time. They have spent time evangelizing, discipling, and celebrating. Although the growth has been steady, they are dedicated to the work in one of the hardest, most difficult areas of the city. In October of last year, they started to consider looking for a piece of land where they could build a building, in order to get out of the crowded house where they are now. They sought a good location, and also an affordable price. After a few months of searching, they decided on a corner lot, not too far away from their current location in a member’s home. At this point, they are paying monthly payments in order to pay off the land. Most of the members are construction workers or factory workers, and do not have a lot of extra money. They are committed, however, to giving the first fruits of their labor to God. They are sacrificing in order to pay for the land where someday, their church building will be. They tell me that to them, it is an investment in their kids’ lives also, because they know that through sacrifices and good examples, their children will follow in their footsteps. There you have the initial back-story to what is now taking place. The pictures that follow will speak much more and do a better job than I ever could. The next page will contain more details as to what will happen next. We ask for your consideration and prayers. God bless! - Ben and Peter Baker, October 2013

This is a video slideshow of the progress made on the building from an idea to reality between 2012 and 2018. I'm sure there are more photos that could be added by the congregation as work did not end in 2018...it was just the last time we were there. [I presented this slideshow as an update to our congregation on 08-23-20.]

La Libertad congregation is in one of the final phases of completing their building project, and that is purchasing the land on which it sits. The church is attempting to raise approximately $4000 USD to close the purchase. Up to this point the purchase of the land has been made through the personal contributions of the members and not through outside fundraising. There is a reason for asking for outside help at this time and I will explain in a follow-up post.

You can help! You can help through prayer; sharing this page/post; and, by making even a small contribution to the project. [More to follow on a POC for donations.] Thank you for your interest and support of this wonderful group of Christian brothers and sisters.

The work continues thanks to God providing the means.

In keeping with II Corinthians 8:3-4, the Christians of the Coldwater Church of Christ contributed $2354 USD during their worship service on May 1st. We praise God for the generosity of Christians throughout church history who have participated, "...in the support of the Saints."

Blessed to hear Ben Baker speak to the Coldwater Church of Christ today and present the story of the La Libertad church. The Coldwater congregation has pledged their contribution on May 1st toward this building project. Any other individuals interested in participating can leave a comment and we will send information.

The La Libertad congregation celebrate their anniversary as a congregation each year. This year they held their celebration in the new building. After a ribbon cutting the group sang together and listened to a lesson from a guest speaker. A meal was held afterward and everyone was encouraged and enjoyed the fellowship.
There is more work to be done to complete the project but the building is now at a point where it can be used regularly. The congregation recognize that we could not have gotten to this point without the many donors (several who have chosen to remain anonymous) and workers who have spent time on this project. May God be glorified in this community and through this project.
