In the last few days, Cyclone Ditwah 🌀 which initially just blew off a few roofs ended up flooding many areas of the country, killing 100s, displacing 1000s and creating a multi billion LKR infrastructure and agricultural hole for 🇱🇰.

Some of our 100-odd factory workers 🧑🏾‍🔧 near the Dankotuwa/Pannala area faced the brunt of the crisis. Whilst I was thinking of the business repercussions, our factory manager, Hiran - Hiran Sajith Perera has already opened up our second/third floor boarding facilities for those in our community most severely impacted. Those of who were struggling from basic shelter.

Extreme weather patterns will be more and more frequent as climate change gathers its unfortunate momentum. I am glad that even if I fail to act, I have those on my team who will choose empathy first 🙏🏾

Nootz won a 2-Star at this year's Great Taste Awards, putting us in the top 10% of applicants! 🏆

After over a year in development and just releasing our first batch of Nootz Passionfruit, we could not be more proud of the feedback from the Guild of Fine Food's judges:

⭐️ “Delicious. Fresh. Delicate.”
⭐️ “Exceptionally well balanced with well-judged sweetness and acidity.”
⭐️ “A pleasing colour and texture are inviting.”
⭐️ “We imagine this would make an excellent base for a cocktail, as well as being perfect for a warm summer's day.”

This one is for our R&D team ✊🏾

A special thank you to International Trade Centre for their continued support in helping us elevate the Nootz brand.

The Coconut Export Industry has made a strong turnaround with year-on-year growth clipping above 30%. In 2025, it is set to hit USD 1.2B, a ten-fold increase from USD 120M twenty years ago. By the end of the decade, the coconut industry is set to surpass the prized Ceylon Tea industry in value. The export growth has come on the back of a coconut harvest that has barely edged 10% in a twenty year period. Newer products that were previously being neglected or undervalued such as coconut cream, coconut water and coconut flour are now adding to the export basket. Furthermore, the deserved premium for one of the most sustainable supply chains world-over is being duly extended. Read our latest industry report to learn further.

Through the EU’s and support from BMZ, the CIRCULAR project is backing bold ideas that are transforming Sri Lanka’s food system — one smoothie at a time. 🥥✨

Meet Dulara de Alwis, founder of Ceylon Exports & Trading, who asked a simple but powerful question:
Can a smoothie change the way we farm, export, and nourish?
He believed it could.
His answer? NOOTZ — the world’s first shelf-stable coconut smoothie.
By sourcing surplus coconuts, mangoes, and pineapples at peak harvest, Dulara is turning post-harvest losses into global innovation. 🌴🥭🍍

A powerful reminder that when we rethink waste, we also rethink value. One smoothie at a time. 🌍💚

The Sri Lankan coconut industry saw a 14% export decline from USD 820M in 2022 to USD 700M in 2023 as a result of several of the same problems faced by the sector in 2022 - low harvest, adverse exchange rate and low value addition/margin. But, there are reasons to be optimistic, starting with a 24% year over year growth in the first four months of 2024. Emerging markets for Sri Lankan coconut products are growing and there is a notable increase in international development assistance for local manufacturers focusing on innovation and capacity expansion.

Check out our updated report on global coconut demand and supply. This covers the markets for coconut oil, coconut milk and coconut flour.

Our factory team has the hardest workers one could possibly ask for. And, their recognition is close to our heart. Few years ago, we only needed a van for our annual outbound but today, even one bus is insufficient
