2026/8/10（月）の19時より、オンラインで第313回の例会がありました。
元々は英語スピーチからの予定でしたが、Zoomの接続でトラブルがあり、急遽日本語の準備スピーチから実施することになりました。
日本語準備スピーチのテーマは、甲子園についてでした。筆者は野球に全く詳しくないのですが、甲子園球場にビールの売り子がいることを初めて知り、大変印象に残りました。論評も建設的かつ前向きな内容でした。

テーブルトピックは、お金にまつわる話題でした。筆者は「何にたくさんお金を使うか」という質問に対して、キーボードやガジェット類と答えました。自分自身の価値観を振り返ることができる良いテーマでした。

そして、Zoom接続トラブルを乗り越え、英語での準備スピーチが行われました。認知症についてのスピーチでした。体調が優れず、かつ、Zoomの接続の問題で画面を見ることができない=タイマーを確認できない中、タイムオーバーで発表を止められながらも、最後まで諦めずにスピーチされていました。それに対する論評が大変印象深かったです。「3つの良いところ1つの改善点」というありきたりな論評ではなく、スピーチから何を感じ取れたか、という点にフォーカスしており、このような論評の仕方があるのかと、大変勉強になりました。

色々トラブルがありましたが、メンバー全員で協力して乗り越えることができました！

Our 313th regular meeting was held online on Monday, August 10, 2026, starting at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting was originally scheduled to open with an English speech, but due to a Zoom connection issue, we made a last-minute change and began with a prepared speech in Japanese instead.
The theme of that Japanese prepared speech was Koshien. I know almost nothing about baseball, so I was struck to learn for the first time that there are beer vendors working the stands at Koshien Stadium. The evaluation that followed was constructive and encouraging as well.
The Table Topics session centered on money. Asked what I spend a lot of money on, I answered keyboards and gadgets. It was a great theme that gave us a chance to reflect on our own values.
Then, having worked through the Zoom trouble, we moved on to the English prepared speech — this one on dementia. The speaker was not feeling well, and because of the connection problem he could not see the screen, which meant he could not check the timer. Even being stopped for going over time at the end, he refused to give up and carried his speech through to the end. The evaluation of that speech left a deep impression on me. Rather than the standard "three strengths and one point for improvement," it focused on what the evaluator had taken away from the speech. I learned a great deal from seeing that there is a way to evaluate like this.
We ran into all sorts of trouble, but every member pitched in and we got through it together!

On July 27, 2026, we held a meeting in a hybrid format, both in person and via Zoom.
We had two prepared speeches for the day. In the first half, the Japanese speech was about a long-standing friendship that was sparked by an iconic 1980s Japanese idol rock band. The speaker passionately conveyed the proactive action and enthusiasm needed to stay connected back in an era without smartphones, and the entire audience was captivated by the speaker's vibrant energy.
In the second half, the English speech focused on the theme of "anger"—an emotion that is often perceived negatively. Drawing from personal experience, the speaker delivered a thought-provoking message suggesting that expressing anger can sometimes be necessary when there is a legitimate reason. Both speeches left a deep impression on everyone present.
Additionally, we enjoyed a unique Table Topics session that was a bit different from usual. We hosted an "Imaginary Book Battle"! The Table Topics Master selected an English book from a stack on their desk for each speaker, who then introduced its content purely based on their imagination without ever having read it. Imagining the plot of an unread book was quite a challenge, but everyone tackled it with great effort and genuinely enjoyed the new experience.
Furthermore, a new format for the agenda was proposed prior to the meeting. Embracing this new initiative showed just how flexible and positive our community is when it comes to change. This open and supportive mindset is likely what creates such a warm, welcoming environment for new members.
On this day, we were delighted to welcome a guest attending for their second time. He shared wonderful feedback, saying, "The club has a great atmosphere," and expressed a positive intention to join us!

2026年7月27日、Zoomと対面のハイブリッドで例会を開催いたしました。
この日の準備スピーチは2本。前半の日本語スピーチでは、1980年代を代表するアイドル・ロックバンドへの愛から始まった長年の友情について語られました。スマホがない時代、友情を繋ぎ続けるために必要な行動力や情熱が熱く伝わり、スピーカー自身のパワフルさに会場全体が惹きつけられました。
後半の英語スピーチでは、「怒り」という一見ネガティブに捉えられがちな感情がテーマでした。自身の経験を通じ、正当な理由がある場合には時には怒ることも大切なのではないかという、非常に示唆に富むメッセージが投げかけられました。どちらのスピーチも深く心に残る内容となりました。
また、今回はいつもと一味違うユニークなテーブルトピックスセッションが行われました。テーブルトピックスマスターの机の上に積まれた英語の本から一冊を選び、読んだことがない本の内容を想像で紹介する「妄想ビブリオバトル」を開催！未読の本の内容を想像するのはなかなか難しく、参加者の皆さんは悪戦苦闘しながらも、この新しい挑戦を心から楽しんでいる様子でした。
さらに、今回は例会前に準備するアジェンダの新しいフォーマットが提案される場面もありました。新しい試みを歓迎し、変化に対してとても柔軟でポジティブなコミュニティであることを実感しました。こうした姿勢が、新しい仲間を温かく迎えるオープンマインドな雰囲気へと繋がっているのかもしれません。
この日は2回目の見学となるゲストの方を1名お迎えし、「クラブの雰囲気がとても良い」という嬉しいお言葉とともに、入会への前向きなお気持ちもいただくことができました。

What an enjoyable meeting! It is amazing how much fun this club can have, even only online! On July 13th we held our 311th regular bilingual meeting, the first hour in English and the second hour in Japanese.

As usual, we heard briefly from each member and two guests during the Check-In Session. Then a guest member from a different Yokohama club gave a prepared speech in English. The TMOE (Toastmaster of the Evening) tried a new Q&A session after each speech’s evaluation. It was an interesting twist and a good way for the speaker to get more feedback.

The Japanese speech was given by one of our veteran members, but it was our first time to hear about a traumatic incident that happened to him in junior high school that shaped his life. The Table Topics session was about our shared vision for the Yokohama Hiyoshi Toastmasters Club.

Because there were several new things that were tried in the meeting, the General Evaluation session, when volunteers spoke up about the meeting, was very lively.

なんて楽しい例会だったことでしょう！オンラインだけでも、このクラブがこれほどまでに楽しめるなんて、本当にすごいです！7月13日に第311回の定例バイリンガル例会をもちました。最初の1時間は英語、次の1時間は日本語で行われました。
いつものように、チェックイン・セッションでは各会員と2名のゲストから短い挨拶がありました。その後、横浜の別のクラブからゲストとして参加した会員が、英語で準備スピーチを行いました。TMOE（当日の司会）は、各スピーチの評価後に新しいQ&Aセッションを試みました。これは興味深い試みであり、そしてスピーカーがより多くのフィードバックを得るための良い方法でした。
日本語スピーチは当クラブのベテラン会員の一人が担当しましたが、彼の人生を形作った中学時代の悔しい出来事について語ってくれたのは今回が初めてでした。テーブルトピックス・セッションでは、横浜日吉トーストマスターズ・クラブの共通ビジョンについて話し合いました。
今回の例会ではいくつかの新しい試みがあったため、参加者が例会について意見を述べる「総合評価」セッションは非常に活気あふれるものとなりました。

6月22日(月)に第310回例会がハイブリッドで開催されました。

一年はあっという間です。今回は今期最後の例会となりました。
今期最後のTMOE(Toastmaster of the Evening)を務めたのはわがクラブのルーキーでしたが、初めてのTMOEの役割に向けて入念な準備を重ね、見事な総合司会でした。総合論評でもコメントがありましたが、例会の質は準備に比例することを痛感しました。そして準備スピーチは英語のみでしたが、スピーカーのコミュニケーションスタイルを知ると同時にストーリーを用いながらメッセージを伝えることに成功しました。後半の日本語セッションのテーブルトピックス（即興スピーチ）では、現在世間を沸かしているワールドカップサッカーのお題で盛り上がりました。今回は出題の仕方に工夫がありました。先ずはスピーカーが問題の番号を選び、その番号を選んだ理由を述べてからお題に対するスピーチをするという二段階の楽しみがありました。

教育セッションの後には役員の就任式が実施され、新たに7名の役員が来期に向けて抱負を述べました。今期役員だった5名のみなさま、一年間ありがとうございました。

On Monday, June 22nd, the 310th Yokohama Hiyoshi Toastmasters Club hybrid meeting was held.

A year goes by in the blink of an eye. This was our final regular meeting of the term.
A rookie from our club served as the TMOE (Toastmaster of the Evening) for the last meeting of the term. He prepared meticulously for his first time in this role and did an outstanding job as master of ceremonies. As mentioned in the general evaluation, I was keenly reminded that the quality of a meeting is directly proportional to the amount of preparation. Today, the prepared speech was delivered in English. The speaker successfully conveyed her message using stories while defining her communication style. During the Japanese session in the second half, the Table Topics Session (impromptu speeches) was a hit, featuring topics related to the FIFA World Cup that is currently taking the world by storm. The table topics master tried a new format: a speaker first selected the number of the question and then explained why they chose that number. After that, the speaker made a speech which created a two-step experience that added to the fun.

Following the educational session, we held a club officer installation ceremony, during which seven new officers shared their aspirations for the coming term. To the five officers who served this term, thank you very much for your hard work over the past year.

ㅤ2026年5月25日（月）に、第308回の例会が慶応大学協生館で行われました。ハイブリッドでの開催で、ゲスト1名、会員10名の参加でした。
　英語スピーチ→日本語テーブルトピックス→日本語スピーチの順に行われました。
　英語スピーチでは、通常の喋りと大きな効果音を織り交ぜつつ、ジェスチャーも取り入れられており、英語の聞き取りが苦手な筆者でも大変分かりやすくストーリーが入ってきました。
　日本語テーブルトピックスでは、「外国人から聞かれて返答に困った日本に関する質問」をテーマに、大変興味深い質問とユーモアあふれる回答の応酬が繰り広げられました。例えば、筆者は「お地蔵さんはなぜ赤い前掛けをしているのか」という質問に対して懸命に珍説を披露しました。
　日本語スピーチでは、親の高齢化という誰しもが直面する問題にどのように対処すればいいか、重要なヒントをもらえるスピーチでした。

　横浜日吉トーストマスターズでは、第2月曜はZoom、第4月曜はZoomとオフラインのHybridという形式で、19時から例会を開催しています。オフラインで例会をする時は、休憩時間に会員が用意してくれたお菓子を食べつつ、2次会として近所の中華料理でご飯を食べます！3回まで無料で見学可能なので、興味のある方は是非お気軽にご相談ください！

We held the 308th Toastmasters meeting at Kyoseikan, Keio University, on May 25, 2026. It was held in a hybrid format, with 1 guest and 10 members attending.
The order of the meeting was: English speech → Japanese Table Topics → Japanese speech.
In the English speech, the speaker wove together normal narration and dramatic sound effects while incorporating gestures. Even I, who am not a strong English listener, found the story very easy to follow.
In Japanese Table Topics, the theme was "Questions about Japan asked by foreigners that are hard to answer." A lively exchange of fascinating questions and humorous answers unfolded. For example, I was asked, "Why do ojizo-san wear red aprons?" and did my best to answer with an outlandish theory.
In the Japanese speech, the speaker offered valuable hints on how to cope with the aging of one's parents — a challenge that everyone will eventually face.

At Yokohama Hiyoshi Toastmasters, we hold our meetings at 7:00 p.m. — on Zoom on the 2nd Monday, and in a hybrid format (Zoom + in-person) on the 4th Monday. At our in-person meetings, you can snack on treats brought by members, and we often head to a nearby Chinese restaurant for dinner afterward! You can attend up to 3 meetings free of charge. On April 13, 2026, our regular meeting was held online.
We were pleased to welcome one guest to the meeting. As always, the meeting was engaging and full of meaningful content.
In today’s meeting, we had no prepared speeches. Instead, the entire session consisted of Japanese and English Table Topics. Both sets of questions were interesting, and the guest also answered the questions. Since we had fewer participants than usual, each member answered multiple questions, making it an excellent opportunity to practice impromptu speeches. We look forward to the next Table Topics Contest—whenever it may come.

2026年4月13日、例会がオンライン形式で開催されました。
ゲストも１名参加いただき、いつものように内容豊富で楽しい時間となりました。
今日はなんと通常の準備スピーチはなく、日本語、英語のテーブルトピックススピーチのみの例会となりました。
両言語ともに興味深いお題ばかりで、ゲストの方も回答していただきました。人数も少なかったので、１人複数回答えることになりテーブルトピックスの良い練習になりました。
何年先かはわかりませんが、次回のテーブルトピックスコンテストが楽しみです。

第303回の横浜日吉トーストマスターズ例会は3月23日(月)に、慶応大学協生館でハイブリット開催でした。ゲスト2名、会員７名の参加でした。
司会はTさん、今回初のTMOE(Toastmasters of Evening)でした。事前のAgenda準備も完璧、時間通りの例会で、ファシリテーターとしてゆったりとリラックスした例会の場を作ってくれました。初挑戦とは思えません。

テーブルトピックでは、Kさんが3月にちなんだ、桜、別れ、出会い、春の嵐等のタイムリーな問いを出していただき、例会は春爛漫で盛り上がりました。

TM T chaired the meeting, serving as TMOE (Toastmasters of the Evening) for the first time. With a perfectly prepared agenda, the meeting ran precisely on schedule, and as facilitator, she created a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. It was hard to believe this was their first time.
This meeting featured one speech each in English and Japanese, as well as a Japanese Table Topic.
The first English speaker, TM K, delivered a speech he had prepared despite being extremely busy with contest organization in his roles as a club and division officer. He spoke concretely about his numerous experiences as a leader, including the conflicts he had faced.
Next, TM M gave a speech that kept us on the edge of our seats, recounting a vicious unsolved crime which had actually experienced. She told us that she had arrived at this speech whilst searching for topics and reflecting on the past.
For the Table Topics, TM K posed timely questions related to March—such as cherry blossoms, farewells, new encounters, and spring storms—and the meeting was in full spring bloom.

Yokohama Hiyoshi Toastmasters holds its second week of the month via Zoom and its fourth week as a hybrid meeting at Kyoseikan Keio Univ., both starting at 7 -9 pm.
As March has a fifth Monday, we will be holding a special 300th-anniversary Zoom meeting on that day, with the theme ‘My User Manual’.

On February 23, 2026, our regular meeting was held both in person and via Zoom. We were pleased to welcome many guests to the session. As always, the meeting was engaging and full of meaningful content.
We enjoyed two speeches in English and one in Japanese, followed by a Table Topics session conducted in Japanese. The English speech and the Japanese speech were both delivered by TM O as practice for the Area Contest. He presented the same two speeches from our in-house contest, but this time with the languages reversed. The remaining English speech was delivered by TM D, who spoke about the situation in her home state of Minnesota. It was a deeply memorable and impactful speech. Although the Table Topics session featured more challenging questions than usual, the members managed to give their impromptu speeches with effort and creativity. We ended the meeting with the induction ceremony for our new member. With this addition, we are excited to make our club even more fun and engaging, filled with opportunities to learn together.

2026年2月23日、例会がハイブリッド形式で開催されました。
ゲストもたくさん参加いただき、いつものように内容豊富で楽しい時間となりました。
英語のスピーチが2本、日本語のスピーチが1本行われ、その後は日本語でのテーブルトピックスセッションが続きました。
英語スピーチ1本と日本語のスピーチ1本はOさんによるもので、エリアコンテストに向けたスピーチの練習でした。インハウスコンテスト時と同じ２本のスピーチを、言語を入れ替えて実施されました。同じスピーチでも言語が変われば、雰囲気が違うということに気付かされました。残り１本の英語スピーチは、Dさんによる母国のミネソタの状況を伝えるスピーチであり、大変印象深いものでした。テーブルトピックスはいつもよりも難しいお題が出されましたが、会員の皆さんは苦労しながらなんとか即興でスピーチを披露しておりました。
例会の最後は、新会員の入会式でした。新たなメンバーを加え更に楽しく学びのあるクラブにしていきたいです。

On January 12, 2026, we held our first meeting of the new year online.
We welcomed one guest, and as always, the meeting was warm and uplifting.
The prepared speeches consisted of one in English and one in Japanese, followed by Table Topics, making the meeting rich in content and full of enjoyment.
The English speech shared an episode from a first business trip, while the Japanese speech explored the theme of personal worries—both were thoughtful and engaging.
The Table Topics session featured New Year–themed questions, and each member delivered an impromptu speech with creativity and flair.

2026年1月12日、私たちは新年最初の例会をオンラインで開催しました。
ゲストを1名お迎えし、いつものように温かく心地よい例会となりました。
準備スピーチは英語1本、日本語1本の構成で、その後にテーブルトピックスが続き、内容豊かで楽しい例会になりました。
英語スピーチは初めての出張のエピソード、日本語スピーチは悩みをテーマにしたもので、どちらも考えさせられる魅力的な内容でした。
