Standing tall at 16700 feet ASL, Mount Srikhand is one out of five abode of lord Shiva. MS is one of the most revered peaks in Himachal. Abounding in mythology of Shiva/Parvati & Pandavas. Situated on the border of Shimla & Kullu. India's toughest pilgrimage Srikhand (16700 feet) is standing tall in Kullu District of Himachal. The sacred peak is visited by some 20000 pilgrims every year from 15th
to 25th July. Srikhnad Sewa Dal arranges food & stay for pilgrims at Singhaud/Thachru/Bhimdwar camps. In the year 2011, we visited Srikhand for the first time & got disappointed to found good amount of plastic wrappers of biscuits, chewing gum, toffees, chips etc on the trek. While returning to the base camp Singhaud we decided to adopt the trek for clean-up drive during annual yatra. We formed Green Srikhand & distributed plastic waste collection bags to all 85 tea shops. We also educated them about proper use of waste bags & to keep the trek & shop surrounding clean during yatra. The 36 k.m.s Yatra starts from a small village Jaon. ROUTE:

Srikhand Sewa Dal makes regular announcement to support the campaign from their singhaud & Bhimdwar camps. Educating people/pilgrims is important aspect of such campaigns rather than picking up waste. For our future clean-up drives, we are planning to distribute small handy bags among pilgrims. So that they carry back their own plastic waste. Srikhand Yatra has given us a platform to spark an awakening among people/pilgrims for a cleaner/Greener Yatra.
