Congratulations to everyone who competed in the Offaly Athletics 4 Mile Championships which was incorporated with the Ashling Murphy 4 Mile race. Well done to all who picked up individual and team medals with great representation from the athletic clubs in Offaly.

PB for Jack

Well done to Jack Donegan, who competed at the 10th PUMA NITRO Lange Laufnacht in Karlsruhe, Germany, over the weekend. Racing in this World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger meet, Jack produced an excellent run in the 1500m, clocking 3:59.89 to record a three-second personal best.

National Half Marathon Championships

John Carroll was the club's sole representative at the National Half Marathon Championship, which this year was incorporated into the Analog Devices Cork City Half Marathon.
A total of 12,300 participants took to the streets of Cork earlier today (Sunday, 31st May,) across the marathon, half marathon, and 10K events.
The half marathon attracted just over 4000 runners, with Ryan Creech of Leevale AC 1st in 1:04:51 and Heather Murphy of St Michael's AC Portarlington securing the women's national title in 1:15:11.
Well done John who completed the challenging course in a time of 1:50.

Eimear Cotter, representing Killina Presentation Secondary School, competed in the Senior Girls' Long Jump at the Irish Schools Championships today. Coming off good form from the Leinster Finals, where she took the silver medal and jumped a PB of 5.50m, it was going to take a similar performance to make the podium today.
Her first jump was perfect in all aspects of long jump technique and speed, but after a delay it was classed as a foul. This was very controversial, as one official called it a fair jump, but a second official called it a foul, so the decision stood. It was a tough one to swallow but Eimear reset for her next round of jumps which she produced a 5.23m and 5.22m placing her fifth and making the final six.
The weather had worsened, with heavy rain making conditions difficult for all jumpers, but Eimear was not deterred. She stuck to the plan and produced two longer jumps, but unfortunately marginally fouled on both attempts and was unable to improve her position, finishing fifth overall.
An incredible performance from Eimear, who has been trying to balance her training and studies all season ahead of the Leaving Cert, which starts next week. This also limited her ability to compete as much as usual throughout the season.
Well done, Eimear, on a fantastic performance, and the very best of luck with your Leaving Cert starting next week.
