Christmas is coming! Do you have time to create an unique christmas tree 🎄 cookies with your kid?

If you didn’t manage to join our baking classes, you can still try out this recipe.

Ingredients for Cookie:

• 316g all-purpose-flour
• 2g baking powder
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 170g butter (cut into small pieces, soften)
• 170g sugar
• 1 egg
• 6g vanilla extract

Decoration:

• 50g white chocolate
• 50g shredded coconut

COOKING UTENSILS

• 2 mixing bowls
• 1 rolling pin
• 1 spatula
• 1 set of star cookie cutters
• 3 pieces of non-stick cooking paper

Instructions:

1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt together. (kid)
In another bowl, beat butter and sugar together until they are pale and fluffy.
2. Add egg and vanilla extract and whisk until it becomes even.(kid)
Fold in the dry ingredients by a spatula.
3. Transfer the dough into a working surface, then sharp it into a ball by hand. (kid)
4. Cut the dough into two, put each dough in between 2 non-stick cooking paper (like a sandwich). (adult)
5. Using a rolling pin, roll out each dough directly in between the 2 cooking paper into a sheet with thickness of 0.5 cm. (kid)
6. Place them into a fridge for an hour until it’s hard enough to handle. (adult)
7. Preheat the oven at 180˚C.(adult)
8. Cut out 2-3 set of star cookies (depend on your ideal height of the Christmas Tree. (kid)
9. Bake cookie at 180˚C for 5-7 minutes until they are golden brown. (adult)
10. Cool them on the rack. (adult)
11. Melt the white chocolate by mircrowave for 30 seconds. Put the melted white chocolate into piping bag which is made by non-stick cooking paper. Secure it and cut the tip. (adult)
12. Pipe out the melted white chocolate to stick the star cookie into a Christmas tree by placing the biggest cookie at the bottom, smallest on the top. (kid)
13. When the chocolate is set, pipe out more melted chocolate on the tree, sprinkle the tree with shredded coconut and candies.
(reheated the white chocolate in microwave if it’s needed)

Halloween Orange Carrot Cake recipe (nut free, low sugar)

Ingredient (for 12 mini muffin)
*in the video, each kid has ingredients for 1 recipe

110g Flour
1.3g baking powder
2.5g baking soda
1.3g Cinnamon
1.3g Salt

45g Sugar
1 Egg
1 Orange (1 orange = roughly 50ml orange juicie)
55g Olive oil

½ medium carrot grated peeled (1 cup) (1 medium carrot = roughly 2 cups of grated carrot)
170g natural greek yoghurt (optional)

Procedure:

Procedure:
1. Preheat oven 135C
2. Cut off 1 inch of the tops of the oranges, scrape out the flesh, save the orange juice.
3. Creating faces on the outside of orange.
4. In a medium mixing bowl, add flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt, mix until they are combined.
5. In another mixing bowl, break the egg, mix with sugar. Add orange juice and oil.
6. Stir the dry ingredient to the wet, then fold in the carrot.
7. Place 12 mini muffin cases into the tray.
8. Pipe the mixture into the cases until they are 80% full.
9. Bake for 20 mins until toothpick comes out clean.
10. Cool them down on a rack before putting topping
11. Pipe the greek yoghurt as a topping (optional)

Although baking with kids, need a bit of preparation and make a mess, cooking can contribute to lots of different area of how toddlers learn in early age, the result is rewarding. We are mums in HK who would like to increase awareness of the advantages of baking with kids, especially in the early age.
