"But can gluten-free cake actually taste as good?"

If I had £1 for every time someone wondered this… 😂

I completely understand why people ask.

For years, gluten-free food had a reputation for being dry, crumbly and something you ate because you had to rather than because you actually wanted it.

I don't think that's good enough.

When you order a celebration cake, you shouldn't have to choose between:

✨ a beautiful cake

✨ an inclusive cake

or

✨ a delicious cake.

You should get all three.

That's why my kitchen is gluten-free by default and why I spend so much time developing and tweaking recipes.

Inclusion shouldn't mean lowering your expectations.

And if someone eats one of my cakes without realising it's gluten-free until afterwards? I'll take that as a compliment. 😉❤️

It's never "just cake".

Imagine arriving at a birthday party.

Everyone gathers around.

The candles are lit.

Happy Birthday is sung.

The cake is cut…

And then someone quietly tells you:

"I'm sorry, you can't have this one."

For most of us, cake is a tiny part of a celebration.

But when you regularly have to sit out those tiny moments, they stop feeling tiny.

It's one of the reasons inclusion matters so much to me.

Owlsome Cakes isn't about creating a sad little alternative that gets brought out separately.

It's about creating something beautiful that can sit proudly in the middle of the table and be enjoyed together.

Because nobody should feel like an afterthought at their own celebration. ❤️

That's what I mean when I say "inclusion through cake." 🦉🎂

"I've seen this cake on Instagram… do you think you could make something like it?"

Of course, there was one other little detail…

It was a last-minute request. 😂

But this wasn't a new customer.

She'd ordered from me before and was coming back for her own birthday cake, which made saying yes even more special. ❤️

Her inspiration wasn't even a photograph — it was a video she'd spotted on Instagram — so my job was to take the elements she loved and turn them into a cake made especially for her.

And then came the other important part.

The cake needed to be sugar-free, because her partner has dietary needs and she wanted him to be considered in the celebration too.

And THAT is the bit I love.

A birthday cake should never just be about how it looks.

It's about who's sitting around the table.

It's about the people you want to share it with.

It's about someone saying, "I thought about you too."

Thank you for coming back to Owlsome Cakes and trusting me with another celebration. 🥰

And yes… apparently my customers like keeping me on my toes and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I've been a little quieter on here than I'd like recently… ❤️

Not because there hasn't been anything happening at Owlsome Cakes — quite the opposite!

There have been cakes, events, new challenges, some very exciting moments and plenty happening behind the scenes.

But somewhere amongst actually running the business, I've realised I've got a little out of the habit of sharing it with you.

So I'm changing that.

I want this page to be more than just a gallery of finished cakes.

I want to show you the stories behind them.

The unusual requests.

The moments that make me smile.

The occasional "how on earth am I going to pull this off?!" moments. 😂

And, of course, why creating inclusive cakes that allow more people to share in celebrations is still at the heart of everything I do.

So consider this my little Owlsome Cakes social media reset. 🦉🎂

🧚‍♀️✨ What a truly magical weekend!✨🧚‍♀️

I honestly couldn’t let the weekend pass without saying a HUGE thank you to everyone who made the Llangollen faery Festival so special. 💕

To every single person who stopped at the Owlsome Cakes stall, had a chat, bought a cake, cookie or treat — thank you!🦉🍰

And to those of you who came back to find me again on Sunday because you’d enjoyed your treats so much the day before… that genuinely meant the world to me! 🥹❤️ There really is no better compliment for a baker than someone coming back for more.

But this weekend was about so much more than cake.

One of my favourite parts of doing events like this is the people I get to meet along the way. I had so many wonderful conversations with fellow small business owners and traders over the weekend, made new connections and, I hope, some new friends too. 💕

There was such a lovely sense of community throughout the whole festival. The atmosphere was absolutely brilliant — friendly, welcoming, wonderfully quirky and just a little bit magical. 🧚‍♀️🍄✨

We laughed, we chatted, we ate cake, we admired some incredible costumes and creations, and I came home absolutely exhausted… but with a very full heart. ❤️

And apparently I can't simply enjoy an event without immediately starting to think…

“Ooooh… what could I do NEXT YEAR?” 😂

Because yes, the ideas are already starting! More magical flavours? Faery-inspired bakes? An even more enchanted Owlsome stall? Who knows where my imagination is going to take me! 🧚‍♀️🦉🍰

Thank you to everyone involved in creating such a fantastic weekend and to every person who supported my little business while you were there.
