✨ My first attempt at potica ✨
Potica is a traditional Slovenian pastry made from a soft, enriched yeast dough that’s rolled paper-thin, spread with a sweet walnut filling, then carefully rolled up to create these signature swirls. It’s a bake that’s deeply tied to celebration — often made for holidays, weddings, and family gatherings — and it’s known just as much for the patience it requires as for the flavor.
This was my first time making it, and I now fully understand why it’s considered a labor of love. From gently stretching the dough, to getting an even filling, to hoping the roll holds together in the pan — every step felt intentional and a little humbling.
Cutting into it and seeing those layers made all the effort worth it. It’s not perfect, but it’s honest, homemade, and a real appreciation moment for a centuries-old tradition passed down through generations.
First potica done — and definitely not the last. 🥖🌰
