FMH is named in honor of my mother, Fiona Mary Hurel, who passed away from cancer in 2012. Starting this business is my way of keeping her memory alive, but it’s also a personal journey of resilience and renewal.

I trained as a paediatric nurse and loved my work, especially being able to help others. Unfortunately, my own health challenges forced me to leave the profession I cherished; the long hours became too demanding, and I had to go on extended sick leave. At first, the time off was manageable, but eventually, I realized I needed something to lift my spirits and give me purpose again.

Baking, especially making brownies, has always been a passion of mine. I stick to the same beloved recipe every time, and the positive feedback from friends and family encouraged me to think, “Why not share this with others?”

I’ve faced my own set of challenges over the years, from encephalitis at age seven to living with anxiety and epilepsy. Through it all, baking has been a rare and constant source of joy for me, a steady light in difficult times.
