Sourdough Day 4: well I got a bit overconfident and decided to double my feed as friends and family are getting their ordered in.

Feed at 8pm. And at 8am disaster! It hasn’t risen enough. 😩 The kitchen was cold last night maybe I should have taken it upstairs and sat it in the bedside table so I could check on it at hourly intervals like a newborn 🤔

Currently resting it near the radiator to see if I can get it going otherwise no dough making today.

Sourdough day 3: Starter Insurance

My biggest fear is killing my starter. And I don’t have the patience to start one myself and maintain it for 12 days before I can bake with it.

So here’s my insurance. I’ve decanted 20g into 2 pots and these will go in my freezer should the worst happen.

Thank you to Kim of Simply Sourdough for a wonderful introduction to sourdough. I have always wanted to try and make my own sourdough but found all the information so confusing and complicated.

Kim’s friendly and informative session has given me the confidence to start my journey.
Being able to askof questions during the course was amazing. And I asked lots! The need for science to be fully explained is crucial for my understanding of the what why and how!

While our loaves gently did their thing after folding and stretching, we got to enjoy the most wonderful selection of breads that Kim had made. They were all delicious.

With my loaves shaped ready for overnight fermentation and my starter fed, I raced home, via Booths for some essential supplies, full of optimism for my freshly baked delights in the morning.
