August asked a lot of me. Heat, hours on the road, and a birthday that made me stop and breathe.
It gave back just as much. My flowers sat on Highgrove Gardens fine bone china. I was named a finalist for Buttercream Artist of the Year. And somewhere between it all, I turned 50 and felt more myself than ever.

A birthday only comes once a year, and somehow that makes the feeling of getting it right even sweeter.

When a client tells me the cake made their day feel special, that it looked exactly as they had imagined, or even better, that is the moment I hold onto. Not the finished photograph, but the message that comes after. The one that tells me the flowers were noticed, the flavour was loved, and the celebration felt complete.

Birthdays are personal in a different way to weddings. They are about one person, one year, one story worth marking. Getting to be part of that, even in a small way, never stops feeling like a privilege.

If you are just creating cupcakes, you are not reaching your full potential.

Someone once told a cupcake artist her buttercream flowers looked like AI images. She took it as a compliment. But it made me think about where this craft can really go.

Nature never repeats itself, curled edges, uneven petals, shades shifting within one bloom. When we pipe with that same freedom, a flower stops looking manufactured and starts looking grown.

A cake is a canvas, not a repeat pattern. A cupcake only gives you room for one flower, one idea. A full cake removes that ceiling, blooms leaning, opening, unfurling together, a whole composition instead of a single study.

And skill alone does not set you apart. Plenty of talented artists can pipe a beautiful flower now. What is rare is a signature style, something unmistakably yours.

This feeling never gets old.

Receiving feedback from a client, hearing what the cake meant to them, how it looked on the day, how it felt to share it with the people they love. That is the moment I make cakes for.

Every flower I pipe is in service of that moment. Not for the photograph, though I am always grateful for those too, but for the feeling a couple has when they see their cake for the first time, or when a guest tells them it was the most beautiful thing they had ever tasted.

That is the part of this craft I will never take for granted.

A vegan red velvet cake for T&I's wedding at Wick Farm Weddings, dressed in a palette that felt entirely their own.

Every couple brings their own story to the flowers we choose, and this one leaned into romantic tones that sat beautifully against the deep red of the sponge within. Proof that plant-based doesn't mean compromising on flavour, richness, or the kind of detail that makes a cake feel truly bespoke.

Wick Farm Bath is one of those settings that makes every element of a wedding feel considered, and it was a joy to bring this piece into it.

A day I won't forget. This styling shoot took place at The Fish Hotel, tucked into the Farncombe Estate in the Cotswolds, and every corner of it felt made for a wedding.

Working alongside such a talented all-women team, in a setting this beautiful, is a reminder of how much I love creating something that becomes part of somebody’s story. Rolling hillside views, treehouses among the trees, and light that seemed to fall exactly where we needed it.

The Fish Hotel is soon to open its doors for weddings, and I can only imagine how special the first couple to marry here will feel. Whether it's an intimate ceremony indoors or vows exchanged beneath the open sky, this place holds a kind of quiet magic that photographs could never quite capture, though we came close.

There is something I love just as much as creating a brand new design, and that is when a client asks to recreate one of my past cakes.

It tells me the design meant something. That it stayed with someone long enough to become theirs too.
