hotwheels cakes for the bravest boy 💙🏎️🏁

one of my wonderful students is going through the most difficult thing imaginable. after a shock diagnosis last year, oscar’s family have been told he may only have a few precious weeks left. i will be setting up a cake decorating table at a special fundraiser next weekend to raise money in supporting the family through this difficult time and make special memories for oscar 💙

i loveee getting an open brief! this customer asked for cupcakes for her nieces’ christening and asked for the buttercream to be purple. putting my own touch on things makes your day unique and my baking more fun 🤩

everything that could’ve went wrong did go wrong with this cake 🤣 1.5kg buttercream wasted later, i think it was well worth it 🤩

p.s. don’t bake when your kitchen is at 30°c 🤦🏻‍♀️

you can’t beat a good vanilla sponge… or i guess you can 🎂🍰🧁

this madagascan vanilla sponge is the perfect base to build your flavour profile. some of my favourite additions for summer are:

- passionfruit coulis filling with a coconut buttercream coconut 🥥🌴
- blueberry compote filling with a lemon drizzle 🫐🍋
- cinnamon and brown butter filling with cream cheese frosting 🧁🥐

or even just jam and buttercream… you really can’t go wrong
