FEELING INSPIRED
And feeling incredibly lucky to be surrounded by so much creativity at .sotd.
I spend two days each week contracting with our Galashiels university, where my role is all about student experience and connecting the community with the university… and bringing the university into the town.
Galashiels has such a rich industrial heritage, and I’ve loved creating opportunities that celebrate local talent and collaboration. From life drawing sessions with local artists and gigs on the green, to branding opportunities for businesses, presentations, and entrepreneurship initiatives within the third sector, it’s been a genuinely rewarding experience.
But the best part? Seeing the degree show come together and watching months of hard work come to life, not just for the students, but for the incredible staff who support them every step of the way.
It’s a role that blends creativity, community, strategy, and a little bit of agency life all in one. These are the kinds of side projects I feel grateful to be part of every day.
Most people ask if I lecture, so watch this space... ha! (Colouring in, anyone?)
I was chatting to some visitors today about when I left school and how the careers machine confidently spat out my future role as a ‘prison officer’. At the time, I thought the fact I couldn’t draw a horse probably ruled out anything remotely creative.
I’m pleasantly surprised by the number of mature students and the variety of pathways that now lead people into further education. It’s a reminder that careers and creativity, rarely follow a straight line.
Anyway, I digress.
If you have ideas about ways we could connect, collaborate, or create opportunities together, send me a message. I always love a good brainstorm.
Wearing my lemon icing Abby as it’s all spring like and sunny today! And windows love a bit of self promotion - because I also have my own product range 🫶
