We are in early this as fish is arriving again now that the roads are completed and we have a lovely new surface throughout the village just white lines to go on Monday so no disruption today or Saturday
We have a superb large Cornish Wild Hake arrived which we will portion to order about 5kg of fish there!

We had a thoroughly entertaining night at Gunnerside presenting to a very interested and enthused group about Artisan food vs Commercially made and particularly the work of The Real Bread Campaign
We tasted commercial made bread vs our Crakehall Watermill spelt
We spoke about contents of commercial yoghurt then tasted our slack house farm organic set yoghurt which was very well received also tasted their BirdOswald cheese a couple of great w**es and everyone went home extremely happy
The only thing is we sold so much I’m already making more beef’s for today

My dad would have been so pleased with his new calendars Christmas cards and prints all raising money for Great North Air Ambulance Service
He never had a great website to show all his work for Vaux or SAFC and his landscapes but now we have launched his brand new site www.ne-art.uk where you can browse a huge gallery of his work and buy Everything from Christmas cards calendars and prints from A5 to A2 sizes all raising money for a great cause
It’s sad that he isn’t around to see it but his lifetimes work is now doing good even after he has gone

We have a speaker appointment on Thursday evening in lower swaledale so I’ve got absolutely loads of breads to make before the presentation
I’ll be making Cotherstone cheese and caramelised red onion bread
Fresh Fermented teacakes
Granary white and crakehall spelt bread
Rolls and focaccia
We’ll be tasting Cotherstone cheese and some fine w**es all round a good evening of tasting artisan foods and talking about the difference with individually made foods and mass produced or supermarket versions
Should be an interesting discussion

This is how we make our organic granary bread using Acorn Dairy butter and 5 other ingredients only. No additives preservatives
Water salt flour butter sugar yeast
They rise in the tins as 600 gram loaves giving you an exceptional bread with a nutty texture

If you are planning on visiting Barningham on but are not sure of the state of play on the roadworks here is a short update

It looks as if the company resurfacing the road have got most of the east of the village now completed and most people should be able to arrive from the Newsham side without too much difficulty to reach the Millbank arms and the coach house
The workers have been very amenable and tried to get traffic to where it needs to be as long as the tarmac has dried so we are grateful for that and we promise we haven’t bribed them with too many bacon and sausage sandwiches!!!
Check with the guys on duty and everyone should get through
You still won’t be able to get through from scargill side it’s a detour around the A66 to smallways and then in from there through Newsham
The restaurant is busy on Wednesday with bookings but we can still squeeze a few more in
Farm shop fully stocked and loaded with goodies so it’s worth a trip

As resurfacing works continue in the village, access in is from Newsham 9/3
We are hoping for not too much disruption but in the meanwhile the bakery is full on getting fresh breads croissants etc out for you
Hot bacon sandwiches soups and hand made chips seem to be going down well with the lads to keep them going
It will be good when all the work is completed

I know we are technically closed on a monday but today the village is swarming with workers re surfacing the road and it means no access in or along the viallge from 9/3pm
We have opened the shop if you are stuck in the village and need some fresh bread milk bits and pieces or some light lunch items we are here till after 3 pm today. Hot bacon and sausage sandwiches are already on the go!!
