And so to my most recent creation, a very important commission for my beautiful baby boy.

I say baby, but we've recently turned four and will be starting school next month 😊

I can't lie, creating this cake whilst juggling work, home and Finlay was stressful at times, but I'm glad I did it. I'm really pleased with the end result and love the rainbow cake surprise inside 🌈🎂

They say that variety is the spice of life and that's one of the things I love about cake making.

One day a dinosaur cake for a 3 year old, the next a retirement cake for a chap who'd worked on the same farm for 60+ years.

I'm a mum of a boy, and boys love dinosaurs!

Two tier, chocolate mud, dinosaur cake created for a friends son for his 3rd birthday - ROAR!

Living in Wiltshire we get to see tractors on a daily basis.

I love the fact that so many of Finlay's friends can rattle off the names of assorted farm machineries with ease.

When a friend asked if I could create a 'combine' cake for her son I was happy to help... but only once she'd supplied a picture!

Loved making this box of cupcakes for a special someone as a thank you gift.

Having enjoyed my dinosaur pyrex bowl baking experience I jumped at the opportunity to use the same technique to produce a spider cake for one of Finlay's friends.

See, not all spiders are scary!

I have to confess that I find it a little stressful having others in my kitchen when baking but when Benjy Bear came to visit from nursery Finlay INSISTED that they make chocolate rice krispie cakes together and who was I to argue with his desire to SHARE!

Wish me luck! Today it's Finlay's 4th birthday party! 90-minutes at soft play with 15 other hyper 3-4 year olds - happiness is...

Casting my mind back a year to Finlay's 3rd birthday, 2016 was the year of the dinosaur... three dinosaurs in fact!

Inspired by Debbie Brown's Dippy Dinosaur I decided to try out cake baking in a pyrex bowl but unconvinced by the outcome decided to bake three bowl cakes (seeing as I had a set of three bowls!).

Amazingly all three cakes turned out well so I decided to create three different dinosaur cakes and ended up with something resembling a diplodocus, a stegosaurus and a triceratops, which meant one for his party, one for nursery and one for home!

You're never too young to get involved in baking in my opinion.

Aged 18 months I introduced Finlay to the wonderful world of baking and my infamous chocolate Rice Krispie cakes.

As you can see he hated every minute of the experience 😆

So it's been almost four years since my last Dotty for post 😮 When I last posted I'd just given birth to my beautiful baby boy and was still naively thinking that I'd be back baking cakes within a few months - spot the first time mum 😆

Anyway four years on, I've moved from Surrey to Wiltshire, work part-time as a Marketing Assistant, am an Independent Usborne Organiser, mum to a busy nearly 4 year old.... and I'm still no closer to reopening the oven door to Dotty for Cakes 🙄

I do still enjoy baking (when I have the time!) and have made a couple cakes (for fun!) over the last few years which I thought I'd share with you.

First up, a cheeky monkey chocolate cake... this was Finlay's 1st birthday cake and the first cake I'd made in over a year.

DOTTY FOR CAKES is delighted to present their yummiest creation to date: Baby Finlay James, born Friday 9th August. We're VERY happy :0)

I'm afraid it's time for me to hang up my apron (temporarily) as I take some time out to look after my very own 'bun in the oven' (due early August).

Don't panic sweet treat lovers as supplies of yummy traybakes are still available at La Spezia and To a Tea in South Croydon and I will be holding one last cake sale at the Collinson Group office next Thursday (27 June).

And if you have a need for cake whilst the DOTTY FOR CAKES kitchen is closed, be sure to check out www.160degreesandrising.co.uk (my sister's cake emporium, based in Bristol).
