There hasn’t been much need for a celebration cake recently but that didn’t stop this request for a 21st birthday cake. Instead of buttercream it was covered in ganache and layered with whipped chocolate ganache

Happy birthday Elsie! 🎉
She had a great time making her birthday cake. I only helped to trim the cake and put the buttercream on the side. She did the rest; measuring, mixing, adding colours, making the buttercream, stacking the cake and the drips!
She decided against the fairy as it wouldn’t have gone with the coloured drips. I’m very proud of her as she was determined to do it herself.
I’m going to take the blame for the messy drips - explanation in the comments, along with the colours we used for the cakes.

Who likes Macarons?! 😋
My amazing husband bought me an online macaron class and I’ve been practicing and practicing (and practicing and practicing!) ever since.....okay, maybe a slight exaggeration but I have made quite a few batches. Here is today’s offering.
My question is, would anyone ever consider ordering some to go with an afternoon tea or as wedding favours etc?
What flavours would you like to try if you were given the chance?

My daughter turns 6 this Sunday (how has time gone that fast?!) and she is currently having to isolate due to a positive case in her class. We are designing her birthday cake - which she wants to make. So far she has decided on a rectangular cake with rainbow colours inside, white buttercream with a rainbow drip and a silhouette of Tinkerbell on the outside 😊
The photos are her inspiration from Pinterest and NOT our finished cakes.
I will let you know how we get on 🎂

Another weekend, another restricted birthday.
This time it’s my husbands.
Luckily for him I chose to listen to his comment that my cakes were looking the same - stripey.
Unfortunately, I chose to ignore his request for no buttercream 🙊
So here is his lemon cake, and my first attempt at a brush stroke cake

Who doesn’t love a chocolate orange?!
When having your birthday in lockdown there is nothing to stop you celebrating with cake. That’s exactly what Becky did when she requested a chocolate orange cake.....
Alternating layers of chocolate and orange inside, with chocolate orange buttercream and even a middle layer made up of the jelly from Jaffa cakes. All topped off with a chocolate drip and plenty of chocolate!
Plus, I’m slowly mastering the Finch Bakery scrapers and love the look they create

It was lovely getting to make a wedding cake this weekend. It’s been far too long!
The sun was shining, the marquee looked great and the bride looked stunning in the photos that appeared afterwards.
The beautiful flowers were provided by Petal and Twig. I’ve had a peek at their page and it didn’t disappoint!

Last week work asked me to make a couple of cakes for the band 5 therapy rotations.
Their first choice was carrot cake - it’s always a favourite! I kept the design simple because I think sometimes you can’t beat a little swirl and sprinkle of cinnamon 🤷‍♀️
The chocolate salted caramel cake was made using a Finch Bakery scraper and I tried using the PME cake drip for the first time.

P.S the cake was cut only by myself whilst wearing a surgical face mask and distributed to others whilst masks were worn 😷masks were removed only when we were socially distanced

My most recent cakes have been making their way to the physiotherapy department at Royal Preston Hospital so this one is making its way to Media City in Salford at the request of my Husband.
Given that he works for BBC North West I decided to embrace the red theme. Let’s hope they love vanilla sponge and buttercream with raspberry jam, strawberries and chocolate 🥰

I want to add a comment on how grateful I am that we still have our regional news team and thank them for all their hard work. They are very busy at the moment not only reporting on Coronavirus in the region but covering stories such as the moorland fires, Black Lives Matter protests and finding positive stories to help cheer us up. I’m very proud of Steve and the team and thank them all for continuing to work to deliver the news during this unprecedented time 👏

🍫 Chocolate and salted caramel cake 🍰 with a caramel and white chocolate drip 😋

I tried out a new recipe today. I also got to use a different Finch Bakery scraper. I wonder what the physio department will make of this tomorrow?!

This weeks baking efforts from the children is chocolate brownies. Shame I’m going to be spending very little time at home over the next two days!

Today I made this cake for my amazing work colleagues. Working in a hospital in the current situation has showed me how truly incredible they all are. As always, they strive to deliver the best treatment to all patients - including those diagnosed with Covid-19. They’ve seen joy and heartbreak over the previous weeks but they dust themselves off and carry on. Thank you guys for being there when I’ve needed you all 😘
I’ve enjoyed baking again (it’s been a while) so I might make it a more regular thing. Elsie and Arthur loved making their own cake too!
This was my first drip cake and also the first time using Finch Bakery scrapers. I’m looking forward to making more xx
