With a heavy heart, I wanted to let you know that I will be closing my business, Tailored Cakes, on January 1st 2022. I will of course be honouring the outstanding commitments and I will be touch. It makes me sad to even say this, especially as it’s a business I created and built over the last 7 years.
I have always suffered with terrible neck and back pain but in the last year it has become chronic and I just can’t bare it anymore. I have subacromial bursitis in my shoulder, which is basically a painful swelling caused by inflammation in the shoulder affecting the rotary cuff. This causes my muscles to ache and often leads to headaches and sleepless nights. I regularly go to a chiropractor and have weekly chiropractic massages to help ease the pain. Unfortunately making cakes exacerbates the issue with the repetitive arm movements and awkward posture.
I salute all bakers out there. With all our passion, time, dedication and skill people should see our worth. I think the designing, prepping, pricing and sourcing that goes into creating the result can sometimes be dismissed because people want ‘cheap cakes’. Never undervalue what is involved.
I have learnt my worth through the years. Standing up for what I believe in, using only the finest ingredients and best materials, putting in my all, often sacrificing my family time… it’s never an easy balance to make.
I want to say THANK YOU to all my customers who have ordered from me. THANK YOU for your loyalty, THANK YOU for believing in me, THANK YOU for keeping my business going all these years and THANK YOU for giving me the sheer delight and purpose that was mine. I am so grateful. I also want to say THANK YOU to my husband who pushed and supported me to make this happen. For all the nights I would work to learn and try and perfect myself. I know he is also upset, as is my son, although they’ll still get the occasional cake! 😅
This decision has been so hard for me. I’ve cried and weighed up all the pro’s and con’s… but in the end I have to put my health first. So on that note… a new year, a new beginning.
HAPPY NEW year to you all. Wishing you all good health and happiness for 2022 and beyond! Stay in touch friends. X
