As we are now making our way into autumn the crazy busy weeks of high wedding season are subsiding and venue open days are filling supplier calendars. I’m going to be posting some wedding cake tips on here over the coming weeks to help to answer the most popular questions that I am asked.

One question that is very often asked at open days is “how far in advance should we order our wedding cake?” It is a popular misconception that a wedding cake can be ordered with just a few weeks notice but this really isn’t the case as most cake designers will be booking up to 2 years ahead.

In order to secure your preferred cake designer (and hopefully that’s me ☺️) I recommend securing your booking in their diary 12-18 months prior to your wedding day.

Most wedding cake designers are self employed and they will personally take your order from enquiry - booking - baking - decorating - setup so the number of bookings that they can take on in a given week will be dependent on the number of hours that will need to be dedicated to creating and delivering your cake along with the same requirements for other bookings in their diary.

So if your wedding day is booked for 2024 now is the time to be finalising your beautiful wedding cake and if your wedding day is booked for 2025 now is the time to begin your cake related research and enquiries.

Never underestimate the kilos of buttercream needed to create a Lambeth cake, they use lashings of it. I LOVE these cakes, so beautiful and opulent ❤️❤️. There is planning required in the setup process however, for venues like Port Lympne they can’t be transported assembled and due to the high level of decoration much of the piping work must be added after the cake is stacked.
