Crown Pianos Ltd. will cease to exist from 31st March 2024. Phil Taylor Pianos will be continuing with restoration work of pianos and Andrew Higson is taking on the tuning schedules, page is Andrew Higson Piano Tuning.

We shipped out this 19th century Broadwood grand last week to a customer in Cardiff - I think she was pleased:

Just wanted to say that the Broadwood is AMAZING! I’m so thrilled. It was lovely to welcome it back into the house and the movers were great. It looks absolutely amazing – I hardly dare touch it and am already obsessing about fingerprints! And the Sound, and the action. Absolutely wonderful. I couldn’t be more pleased. Well worth a wait!!

The work we did was a complete strip down rebuild, soundboard shim and respray, frame respray, restring, new action and keys plus a whole host of unseen repairs and alterations. The case also got repolished.

Today’s job - fitting a set of new bass strings that I made to this Yamaha C5E. The old strings were exhibiting the dull thudding that seems to afflict so many Yamahas. Forgot to take an after pic 🙄

Plastic flanges with no bushing so they don’t move easily plus below standard glue on the felts meant that the hammer assemblies all needed replacing on a client’s Bentley upright. All fixed now; happy technician, happy client.

Both pianos on show this morning. Had to get the boss out to help me tune the two together! Wasn’t impressed when the air conditioning poured cold air onto us just as we finished.
