If your thinking about judging or have been invited to Judge in the forthcoming season, this is an opportunity to test your knowledge of the Field Trial J Regulations for Retrievers.

The pressure will be a lot less than you will experience in the field and the exam of 40 questions in 40 minutes is optional for those who just want a learning experience without exam pressure.

The Dukeries held their first Retriever Working Test on the 23rd May at Bretby Park Shoot BKPO Mrs C Macdonald of Sleat and Mr Matt Smith.

The running cards were for both Novice Dog Novice Handler and Novice and we had a good turnout.

As I referred to in the introductions Bretby is one of my most favourite places, the ground is simply vast and stunning with many a challenge for dog and handler. I hope everyone left with a similar feeling and how lucky we are to be given access to these gems of the country.

Our judges for the day were
Tim Brain (A3226) - Test 1 - picking up exercise
Lesley Cooper - Test 2 - walked up exercise
Mark Morton - Test 3 - double mark
Sue Rodgers - Test 4 - water

We are very thankful to them for giving up their time.

The morning was quite cloud covered so the weather helped the dogs, handlers and helpers, but it did get very warm around midday so after 8 retrieves it was decided to call it a day with the best dogs rising to the top….

Results as follows

NDNH

Ist place - Amberginreau Iona Eclipse - Tom Stogden

2nd place - Kenleap Harmony - Louise Barrington-Earp

NOVICE

1st place - Hawkerline Chiquitita At Stauntonvale - Laura Hill

2nd place - Diglake Indigo Girl At Maddistream - Gill Awty

3rd place - Merakibea Cobra - Jez Harris

4th place - Jobeshill Paloma - Carol Barrett

COM - Laxtongate Forrester - Tracy Gilkes
COM - Lowtreys Quen Von Ravenstag - Lissy Hawkins

My final mention is to my helpers for the day.
Cheryl, Paul, Sharon, Pat, Emily, Beth, Sue and Andy.
The day cannot happen without you and you did an amazing job. You are obviously natural tossers as there was not a whisper of a complaint 😄
Dukeries is proud to have surpassed 700 members, even with such a membership, sadly we do still struggle for helpers.
Competitors, please think about how you can give something back and help the officers who are so busy trying to ensure you have a great day.
If numbers of helpers dwindle the likelihood the events will too
Give up one day and see the event in reverse, see and be part of the hard work and graft, but also see the finished result… people going away happy having had a great day out with their dogs and how you were part of making that happen ….

Until next time 👍💪

Regulation J (G) 2.b.(4)

Novice Dog/Novice Handler (Unclassified) Confined to dog and handlers who have not gained any AWARD in a field trial or Classified GWT or won NDNH Working Test.

Regulation J 7a. Defines AWARDS as 1st 2nd 3rd & 4th.

Diploma of Merit & Certificate of Merits are not regarded as AWARDS. They are presented at the discretion of Judges, for dogs that have shown sufficient merit during the body of the stake.

The Dukeries committee have not had chance to meet and define preferences for NDNH, therefore will allow NDNH to run in our NDNH Working Test having received a COM in a Classified Puppy or Novice Working Test. Any other Award in a Classified WT would preclude owner from entering a NDNH WT.

FYI an Unclassified WT is covered by J (G) 2.b (5) basically restrictions by conditions set by the Dukeries - Notts Gundog Club

We have a few spaces left for this day, message me if you want to train on this traditional shooting estate.

The Retriever training team are pleased to announce we have a training day at the Glorious Osberton Estate on the 13th June. This test trial ground is on a shooting estate and we are lucky to have access to it as a club.

Day will be a mix of static and walk up training.

The day is split into four modules:

Morning Novice Retrievers and Open Retrievers

Afternoon Novice Retrievers and Open Retrievers.

We do this in order to try and provide the opportunity to get as many members the opportunity to attend.

You can apply to come to a morning and afternoon session, but may not be offered both.

Cost per session is £35.00

To reserve a place email on [email protected], or for more info message me on 07973679360
